Congratulations to one of our scholars, Lexi W., on her painting, "Midnight Ride," for being chosen as a winner in the Hillsdale American Heroes Student Art Contest. She will represent Florida in the middle school category at the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C. in a few weeks. Phenomenal job, Lexi!

Many of our exceptionally talented scholars submitted their artwork for consideration, and we are immensely proud of every scholar who participated. It takes remarkable courage and confidence to showcase one's creative work for evaluation, and we wholeheartedly commend each scholar for their willingness to share their talents and pursue excellence.

See how Lexi describes her painting: "This artwork depicts a scene of Paul Revere's midnight ride. The dark yet hopeful mood and visible strokes show the intensity and importance of this moment in history. Similar to "Starry Night" by Van Gogh, this artwork focuses on impressionism, capturing the fleeting moment of Paul Revere. It focuses on light and atmosphere, mainly onto the horse. In the center, a great stallion is shown on its hind legs, with the rider alerting the militia that British troops were marching to arrest leaders and seize weapons. The bright moonlight and dull glow of the lamps shine upon the path. To the left is a dark, gloomy background. I chose Paul Revere for his courage. He showed independence and leadership. The subject represents the power and courage of an individual citizen. He inspires us to do what we believe is right. Even regular people can make a difference. According to this artwork, living historically means having the courage to stand up and adapt when the world around you shifts. Some of the brushstrokes are blended. The movement of the horse and rider makes the scene feel dramatic and urgent. The houses, road, and sky have a little texture to create a somewhat realistic yet loose and mainly impressionist setting to the viewer."
