🎶 Music and movement are essential to classical education, developing memory, coordination, attention, and an appreciation for beauty. Through rhythm and melody, students engage both mind and body in disciplined, joyful learning.

Under the guidance of our beloved Mrs. Stephanie Eickholt, students receive thoughtful music instruction that builds musical literacy while supporting learning across the curriculum.

🪨🔍 Our fourth graders got the chance to explore the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, marveling at stunning rocks, minerals, and intricate carvings from around the world. They discovered that lapidary—the art of cutting and polishing stone—dates back to the earliest civilizations, when people crafted tools, weapons, and eventually objects of beauty. Seeing how these ancient techniques evolved across cultures into modern artistry helps our students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of geology, earth science, and human history.

❄️🏹 Teamwork in Action at Dickson Valley Camp & Retreat Center

Our fifth and sixth grade students recently visited Dickson Valley for a few days of team building and winter fun. Through activities like archery, gaga ball, climbing walls, Blizzard Slopes, obstacle courses, and the Gauntlet, students were challenged to work together with grit and perseverance.

Each activity required communication, problem-solving, and encouragement, giving students the opportunity to practice teamwork and resilience in real time. It was a memorable experience that strengthened friendships and helped students grow in confidence, character, and collaboration. We’re so grateful for a wonderful time!

Last week our third graders visited The Art Institute of Chicago to examine historical artifacts and works of art that paralleled their history lessons on the Middle Ages. Students studied illuminated manuscripts, sculptures, stained glass, and historical weapons, observing the strong emphasis on gold, color, and storytelling. Seeing these objects firsthand helped students connect their history lessons to real artifacts, reinforcing a classical approach that treats history as an unfolding story rather than isolated facts.

🦴🌯 Second Grade Science: What’s Inside a Bone?

Today’s lesson featured tortillas, vanilla wafers, angel food cake, strawberry jelly, and Twizzlers! As part of their study of the human body, our second graders are learning how cells, organs, and systems work together—most recently focusing on the skeletal system. Through a hands-on “bone burrito” activity, students explored the structure of bones, identifying the different layers and their functions in a clear, concrete, memorable—and delicious—way, thanks to our amazing second grade teacher, Ms. Sceggel.

We can’t wait to see how they explore the brain next! 🧠✨

📖🎭 Our first-grade students brought Frog and Toad Are Friends to life in their Reader’s Theater last week! Dressed in creative costumes, they celebrated these timeless stories while strengthening reading fluency and confidence as they read aloud for an audience of parents and friends.

While the temperatures dipped, Covenant was full of warmth and comfort. ☕🦁 “How would it be if you came and had tea with me?”

Our 3rd graders stepped into the magical world 🌏 of Narnia. While reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, they enjoyed tea, toast, and “sardines” in a cozy classroom cave—thanks to our amazing Mrs. Ana Stevenson!

At Covenant, we intentionally use great stories to help spark faith, courage, imagination, and conversations, guiding students to wrestle with big ideas and grow into wise, virtuous thinkers. 📚

What does servant leadership look like in action?

At Covenant, it often looks like a fourth grader sharing a story with a kindergartener friend. Through our weekly Reading Buddies program, older students practice leading with patience, kindness, and care, while younger students are encouraged, seen, known, and celebrated. These simple, intentional moments reflect our desire to raise students who follow Christ by joyfully serving others. 🫶👏🤝
