Imagine a 50 hour seal-style bootcamp. Kick it up a notch and imagine attempting this while battling symptoms of hypothermia. Now, imagine attempting this challenge not once, but TWICE!
Heather Parillo is the 20th woman in history to complete Kokoro. What a feat. But this accomplishment didn't happen by accident. She trained her mind, body, spirit and emotions to be fit enough to conquer the challenge.
Swipe to see some tips to foster a resilient mindset like Heather's.
1๏ธโฃ When you quit, be quick to bounce back. It's not that you're a failure or unable to reach what you set out to do. Take motivation from those before you who have done it - if they succeeded, so can you!
2๏ธโฃ Embrace the journey. Failure is a part of life. You won't always get it right on the first try, and that's okay! Perseverance transcends into every aspect of our lives, so look beyond the physical challenge and enjoy the process.
3๏ธโฃ Resilience can be learned. Just because things get hard, doesn't mean you have to give up. Keep up your sustainable pace, but continue to work hard. Then you will go beyond your limits and discover strength you didn't know you had.
4๏ธโฃ Tap into mental strength. You could be the greatest athlete, but if you have a limited mindset, you might not make it. The key to shifting your mindset is to change what you believe. When you believe something to be true about yourself, for example "I am strong", then you start believing you can do anything.

Here's how to run further in 2023. We take a page out of ultra-athlete 's book for some tried and tested tips.
Swipe to see how you can improve your running performance.
1๏ธโฃ It's not about speed. When Eric runs ultra-marathons, he normally sticks to the back of the pack. Running further is about your own personal best - not competing with others.
2๏ธโฃ Learn to run more efficiently. Your running style might be holding you back. When you're going for long distances, you need to conserve energy. Eric suggests having as many body parts moving in the direction you're travelling in. Swaying or bouncing running styles could be sapping your energy.
3๏ธโฃ Have a running plan to increase your mileage per week. When he first started trail running, Eric hadn't run in about 30 years. He started with a one mile run then slowly increased his distance from there, with a 50 mile race as his end goal.
4๏ธโฃ Join a running group. Experienced runners are great mentors when you first get started. Eric joined a trail running group and was motivated to run longer distances simply because he saw it was possible.
5๏ธโฃ Train yourself mentally. Working on your mindset is key. Before Eric was able to run 100 miles, he had to let go of limiting beliefs. When you're in the thick of a race and feel like giving up, it's a good idea to take a break, recover physically and THEN decide whether you want to quit. Half the battle is in your mind.

How I stay motivated ๐๐๐
Everyone finds motivation in different things. For me, I push past discomfort one step at a time. Take running for example. If I have to think of the entire marathon ahead, there's a chance I might give up. But if I focus on the next mile and the next and the next, I find the motivation to keep going.

Tips to stay motivated in 2023!
Do you have a mountain you set out to climb in 2023? Your end goal might seem out of reach, but with consistency it can be attainable. It's essential to frame your goal with the right lens.
PhD Ayelet Fishbach has some tips to ensure you stay motivated to reach your goals in 2023:
1๏ธโฃ Make sure your goal is intrinsically motivating. This means that the activity you do to pursue this goal is in itself rewarding.
2๏ธโฃ Make sure the goal fits into your lifestyle. If you aren't able to find the time and space to pursue it, the process will drag out, making it harder to stay motivated.
3๏ธโฃ Make sure you can clearly monitor your progress. As humans, we're motivated by self-improvement.
4๏ธโฃ Lean on your support network. If the people around you support your goal and want to see you achieve it, there's more chance that you'll stick it out even when it's hard.
