Martin House Inn
Martin House Inn was built in 1803 by sea captain and gentleman Nathaniel Sherman for his bride Hepsa
Situated in the heart of Nantucket’s famed “historic district,” this resplendent mariner’s mansion will take you back to a romantic place and time when the new world was still being discovered and America was hardly yet a notion. Thank you for the journey!
It is with a full heart and profound gratitude that I write today, to thank all of you for this journey, for the laughter and joy you brought, for the privilege of being entrusted for a while with this historic treasure and being chosen again and again as your home away from home.
After nearly 20 years of owning and loving the Martin House Inn and hosting the family of guests that made each year better than the last, I am handing the reins to this piece of Nantucket and personal history to the extraordinary The Greydon Hotel Group, confident in the knowledge that all of you will be in the kind and capable hands of a new owner.
Those of you who already have reserved rooms for 2022 can look forward to enjoying the gracious hospitality of a team that loves this property and hosting you as much as our team has. (And those who haven’t yet made reservations for 2022 should do so soon because we have more advance reservations for a future year than we have ever had during our tenure.) The Greydon Hotel Groups’ passion and vision and aesthetic and view of stewardship will ensure that your future visits only exceed the joy and comfort of your past visits.
The beauty and warmth of the 218 year old Martin House transcends time and individual owners and stands as a beacon of a bygone era, doors still open, welcoming you home to Nantucket. And as I entrust all of you, our most treasured assets, to the new owners, I smile and hear the sweet voice of Winnie-the-Pooh pondering “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” And realize that perhaps there are no goodbyes when something becomes so deeply embedded in one’s heart.
Namaste
