We are honored that The Market Common was selected as the home for the Carousel horse originally located at Myrtle Square Mall. We are especially excited about the installation of the carousel horse painted with both the South Carolina state flag and the American flag. Its placement on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base during the week we celebrate the anniversary of our nation's 250th year of independence makes this occasion even more meaningful. It is a wonderful tribute to our community's history, our state's heritage, and the freedom we proudly celebrate as a country.
Everyone is invited to the unveiling of the newly-refurbished Palmetto Pride Carousel Horse on Wednesday, July 1! The home of the new public art piece will be at the corner of Howard Avenue and Nevers Street. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
The Palmetto Pride horse blends the elements of the American and South Carolina state flags. 49 of these carousel horses were auctioned off in September of 2003 to help pay for renovations to the Rivoli Theatre. This horse was originally purchased by Chuck and Diane Stokes, who had it on display along 29th Avenue North for years.
The Cultural Resources Committee wanted to make an effort to preserve the horse since it had taken on some wear and tear from the elements over the years. Chuck and Diane generously donated it to the city as a public art piece. Local artist Heather Gillmer restored the horse back to its former glory, and it is now ready for the public to enjoy!
Please join us in recognizing a piece of Myrtle Beach history in the Market Common Wednesday, July 1, at 11 a.m. The event will feature speakers, music and the grand unveiling of the new public art piece.

🚨Dot Cake (Cold Stone’s Version)🚨
We’ve been experimenting in the kitchen, and this one might be too good to keep to ourselves….
Introducing the Dot Cake (Cold Stone’s Version): layers of yellow cake, frosting, and our signature sweet cream ice cream, all topped with a blanket of colorful dots.
The real question is… should we start making these? 🤔
Would you buy a Dot Cake (Cold Stone’s Version)?
