Happy Occupational Therapy Month!

Several of the OTA students were able to attend the SCOTA (South Carolina Occupational Therapy Association) Conference in Charleston, SC this past weekend!

The students were able to attend workshops about current OT topics, network with other occupational therapy practitioners, and network with vendors.

Today, the OTA students practiced a variety of patient transfer techniques, including the use of a Hoyer lift, Sara Steady, and slide board. They worked on proper body mechanics, patient safety, communication, and correct equipment setup to ensure safe and effective mobility assistance across different levels of patient support needs.

The OTA students have been busy this semester learning how to utilize adaptive equipment for dressing and educating clients on hemi and paraplegia dressing techniques! 🩺👚🩳

The OTA students are starting off the semester learning proper handwashing protocol, donning & doffing PPE, and how to take vital signs! 🥽🩺

The OTA students engaged in an intraprofessional workshop with Francis Marion's OTD Program and Methodist University's OTD and BSOTA students.🤝
The workshop allowed the students to participate in a simulation to experience how it is to live in poverty.
The students collaborated to determine the barriers these clients face and what we can do as OTPs to ensure occupational justice and engagement for a better quality of life.

The OTA students participated in HGTC's Welcome Back Week! 🎉😎
They engaged with students to learn about visual deficits with simulated glasses. Students were encouraged to play Perfection or complete the 9-hole peg test wearing the visual deficit glasses and use their nondominant hand to gain perspective on how challenging life could be with these barriers!
