On this day in 1925, Lou Gehrig replaced Wally Pipp as the New York Yankees first baseman. “The Iron Horse” went on to play 2,130 consecutive games, a record that stood for more than 50 years! According to legend, Pipp asked for the day off due to a headache.

On this day in 1923, competitors finished the first Le Mans Grand Prix d’Endurance. The world’s oldest active sports car endurance race is held annually in Le Mans, France, and the event is one leg of the Triple Crown of Motorsport!
