Junior Police Academy day 4 is in the books!
Students visited the Muscatine County Courthouse to learn about the various roles within the justice system. The students had an excellent experience participating in a mock trial, where they worked alongside Muscatine County Attorney Korie Talkington, defense attorney Beau Bergmann, and District Court Judge Hon. Thomas Reidel.
This afternoon, the students heard from Detective Arnaman of the Muscatine County Drug Task Force, as well as Detectives Jensen and N. Sink from the Muscatine Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. They provided the students with an informative look into how in-depth investigations are conducted.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our guest instructors for sharing their time and expertise. A special thank you to Bayer for generously providing lunch from Chicharos for our students and staff.

A committee of MCC students planned and hosted a Disability Awareness Human Library event. The event involved many months of planning by multiple individuals and was a way for participants to spread awareness and positivity around disabilities. Presenters had the opportunity to share a bit about their perspective of living with a diagnosis. Attendees then had the opportunity to hear from presenters one-on-one or in small groups to learn more about their experiences navigating the workforce, educational settings, and healthcare systems with a disability.
The event was suggested by recent MCC graduate Isabella Buesing. Isabella wanted a way to: "help spread awareness for people with disabilities." The organizing committee hopes that through this and future events they can help to reduce the stigma surrounding disabilities. The committee hopes to host another event in the fall.
