Horry County Government will begin spraying for mosquitos 1 June 2026.

MOSQUITO AERIAL SPRAYING BEGINNING IN JUNEπ¦
Aerial spraying for mosquitoes in targeted areas may begin on June 1, 2026. Spraying operations are conducted two hours before sunset and last until two hours after sunset, weather permitting.
Horry County Mosquito Control uses a variety of methods to help reduce mosquito population. They treat catch basins and ponds year round, truck-mounted spraying where necessary, and aerial spraying in targeted areas based on mosquito activity and weather conditions.
Truck-mounted spraying began on May 5; aerial spraying will reach areas outside of the truck routes. Spraying will only take place where treatment has been deemed necessary. Several factors determine whether treatment is necessary, including:
Sustained temperatures above 50Β°F
Inspections in response to service requests
Mosquito trapping in strategic locations
Horry County Mosquito Control continuously monitors conditions to determine when and where spraying is needed. Due to weather conditions, such as rain, wind and temperature, spraying schedules must remain flexible. We are unable to provide specific notifications for truck routes, but planned aerial spraying is posted on social media and on the aerial mosquito spray map (located on the Stormwater website).
Horry County only uses products approved by the EPA and SCDPR. They pose minimal risk to humans and animals. For anyone wanting to reduce exposure stay indoors and close windows during spraying. In addition homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed or peeled before eating.
To help keep our local honeybee population safe, beekeepers are encouraged to contact Horry County Stormwater to identify the location of their colonies. Residents of unincorporated areas of Horry County (outside city limits) may request spraying through the Horry County Road & Drainage Hotline at 843-381-8000 or submit a service request on the Stormwater website.

Ed Piotrowski WPDE has the message on point. If you have ever been to Normandy and seen the beaches that the allied forces had to cross to secure victory you know. It was not a small feat. Freedom is NOT free and we honor all of those who have given their lives so we may have a better one.
This image gets me every time.
Behind every freedom we enjoy today is someone who gave everything for it.
This Memorial Day, we remember the brave men and women who never made it home, and the families who have carried that sacrifice through every year since.
Live with gratitude, honor their legacy, and never take this freedom for granted.
