A new bird for me! I was in St. Augustine taking pictures of Wadding Birds when this Great Crested Flycatcher landed on a branch directly behind me. The bokeh coming from the sun filtering through the trees was truly a happy accident, as I've never tried a shot like this before.

This picture was a really great learning experience for me, as I now know where to position myself to intentionally produce more of these type of images.

Rose Squared Art Shows

Snowy Egret in its peak breeding plumage! This is my first time experiencing these type of displays, and when I say I was in awe, I mean it.

A lot of the time, I was not taking pictures and simply observing these birds doing their mating rituals, because I wanted to take in the experience. I'll be going back to the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine again and again in the years to come, as it surely lived up to the hype!

I'll remember this one for a long time! I was showing my son my camera screen while taking this picture. Coincidentally, my wife was taking a picture of me taking this exact photo.

From a photographer standpoint, what I love about this moment is you can truly grasp what 1200mm full frame equivalent looks like. In short, it's awesome.

I finally saw a Painted Bunting! I have yet to get a decent full-body shot, but I'll have two more opportunities this upcoming week!

Another Mourning Dove preening picture! I've been hesitant to post this one, because my dad thinks it looks like a dead bird, but it was alive and well when I took this picture. My wife and others love the picture, so it's polarizing I suppose. At the end of the day, it's art, so interpret how you like!

My favorite sparrow, the White-throated Sparrow! One of the best parts about each late fall / winter / early spring in Pennsylvania are seeing these birds!

Mourning Dove preening! It never gets old getting close enough to watch these wild animals go about their business, naturally, without any physical alterations by a human. I was surely some sort of zoologist in another life.

Officially launching my new “Nature’s Lovers Series!” The first two images you see are from the brand new series, with the intention being to pair a male and female from the same species together. I’m extra excited about this one because of the challenges involved in capturing both male and female birds in specific poses so the composites work to my liking. Probably my hardest project to date, and something I’m very much looking forward to adding to in the future.

The first image is of a male and female Eastern Bluebird, both taken at Norristown Farm Park. The second image is of a male and female Cardinal, taken at Peace Valley Park.

This is my second major series, the first being my “Majestic Flight Series.” Images three onward are from that series.
