Watering, how much and how often.
August 1 to the end of the watering season.
The first week in August you need to reduce your watering days by 1 day a week (watering 4-5 days a week) or 20%. By this point, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler. This is the time of year that people waste the most water. They assume that since it is still hot, we should continue watering the same as we did in July. From August to October you need to gradually reduce your water usage. Reduce your watering days by 1 day every 3 weeks, or reducing your sprinkler timer percentage as described below. If you have sandy soil, follow the percentage reduction method.
Example:
Watering days per week
Aug 1-21, 4 days
Aug 22-Sept 4, 3 days per week
Sept 5-Sept 29, 2 days per week
Sept 30- Oct 20, 1 day p*e week
After October 20 you are done watering for the year and the system can be shut down.
If you prefer to reduce your percentage rather than days of the week. Most sprinkler clocks now have an option to set percentage by month.
Example:
May 60%
June and July 100%
August 80%
September 50%
October 30% and turn system off after October 20
