Mountain View Quilts

Welcome! My joy is making quilts and I am blessed to be able to sew every day here in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I make a wide variety of quilts—including custom requests. I like to keep my creations affordable so they are accessible for everyone.

If you know me & my hubby, you’ll know aviation is a big part of our lives. It’s mostly how we met, what I used to do for a hobby (helped produce an airshow in IL), what he does for fun (private pilot) , & what we do on our trips (aviation museums or anything airplanes). So when I saw this fabric by I knew I had to have it!! I altered the pattern a bit to make it bigger since hubby is 6’3”. He has proclaimed it a keeper!

Sat down after a long day of pattern writing & editing. My sweet girl ran over & crawled in my lap. Life is good. ❤️🐶

Well….. so much for sewing during the Super Bowl. Christina’s foot pedal decided it was time to break in her machine when she finally found a little free time to play. Thankfully she can order a new one fairly quickly. Kind of funny timing since this week’s blog post was what to do without a sewing machine. 😎

Get a cup of tea or coffee, put your feet up, and take a look at all the inspiration in this week's blog. There were so many beautiful quilts on display at Festival, we could have spent several more hours looking at them.

How do you determine what skill level or difficulty rating to put on your quilt pattern? Do you keep a list in your head of what goes in a beginner pattern versus a confident beginner or intermediate pattern?

This week's blog post talks about skill levels. We'd love to hear how you do it so leave us a comment either here or on the blog post to let us know.

Finally!! I haven’t been able to sew for almost 4 months since before my shoulder surgery. Yesterday I finally sat back down in front of “Baby” to make some mug rugs. It felt so good!! From cutting fabric to hand stitching the binding on. A little sore in the shoulder but I haven’t used those muscles in awhile. Love these fabrics from just because they are so cheerful. 😊❤️

Today we went to the Dayton USAF Museum & saw this huge quilt. It was made for the 50th anniversary of the USAF—20ft x 20ft, 180 yards of USAF blue fabric, & thread that had been flown in the Space Shuttle. There are 100 squares representing all the Air Force installations around the world (at the time), took over 3 months to assemble the squares & over 500 hours for the hand embroidered letters. It originally hung in the Pentagon before being transferred to the Museum.
How cool is that!!

Sew excited to get my 12 bolts of fabric from his new Storyboard line. I have a bunch of grunge fabric to coordinate with it. Hopefully this shoulder heals quickly so I can start using these fabulous pieces.

Fridays are usually a day of reflection for me. I look over my week to see what I’ve accomplished & if i meet my goals. This week was exceptionally good & I’m feeling grateful (& not overwhelmed for a change!)
- I handled 3 days on my own (with my arm in a sling & 2 needy dogs) while hubby was out of town. And hubby got home safely.
- I was able to get caught up on my tech editing jobs -We had several new client calls for ghostwriting. -We added another new member to our team. Our business is growing! -Little Bella (in photo) is adjusting to her new home & is such a sweetie. How has your week gone? Did you reach your goals?

Had some shoulder surgery today to fix some things. Looks like I won’t be doing much sewing for about 6 weeks when I can finally begin physical therapy. It’s all good but “Baby”, my machine, will get lonely. 🤣😎💕

Finally!! All 108 blocks are fine & ready to lay out for the quilt top. With 12 seams in each block, that’s 1,296 seams to iron. I usually don’t make these tour of blocks but I think the quilt is going to be cool! Do you like making blocks with lots of seams?

Back to one of our favorite tracks—Bristol’s Thunder Valley! Haven’t been to a race since March so it was good to hear/feel the nitro speed. Fingers crossed the weather holds for 2 more days. 🤞🙏😊😎

My 8 minutes of fame. 😂 Today’s box opening video at The Fabric Patch (fabricpatch.net). As a “retreater” we go to help open the new fabric. Watch it all if you love fabric, but I am at the 17:00 mark. Then they shared some of our retreat art at the end. 😊❤️ https://youtu.be/zTJns7jSQ80 or go to YouTube-Fabric Patch - Sunday box opening with friends.

Game changer!! I’ve never used the Bloc Loc Half Square Rectangle rulers before & I love them! I had 160 HSR to trim & the rollers made it sew easy. Have you used them before?

05/21/2023

Such a beautiful Sunday! Decided to do some quilt pattern technical editing on the back porch. My sweet girl is laying down by my feet keeping mommy company. Life is good!!

Pausing in my bright triangle quilt to make a custom order for a college graduate. I really like this by in the graduates favorite colors! And I love working in batiks. Custom orders are always fun to create.

Bindings added on all 4 quilts—2 of them are king/queen, the other 2 are lap/throw—and ready for travel. Time to rest!

2 quilts trimmed & ready for binding! As that to the other 2 that need binding & I’ll have 4 quilts to handstitch on our next trip (3 days of driving each way 🥸). That should keep me busy. Lol. I turn on my iPad & watch a movie & stitch away. Who else loves to stitch in the car?

05/13/2023

The latest round of trimming in 108 blocks. And only one mistake in assembly! That’s pretty good odds. Lol. Now on to the next round……
