Teen Advisory Council is a collective of students around Knox County that work to educate their peers about healthy lifestyles.

The Teen Advisory of Knox County is a program through the DELTA FOCUS grant. Teen Advisory Council is a group of passionate, informed high school students who serve as ambassadors of healthy relationships in their schools and communities. The Teen Advisory Council is trained by New Directions Staff, and takes that training into the community through projects and events of their design. One of the TAC’s annual events is the “Color for a Cause” 5K in downtown Mount Vernon.

Honoring all the fathers and father figures who bring strength, compassion, and guidance to the lives they touch.

At New Directions, our team is especially mindful that Father’s Day can hold many emotions. For some, it’s a day of celebration. For others, it may be a moment of reflection, healing, or remembering someone who shaped their journey.

We see you, and we’re holding space for every experience today.

Whether you’re celebrating, being celebrated, or honoring a loved one, we hope your day is meaningful and filled with appreciation.

Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of June 19, 1865, when freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It remains a day to honor Black history, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice.

As a nonprofit committed to survivor advocacy and trauma‑informed support here in Knox County, we believe deeply in recognizing the historical and cultural significance of this day within our community.

In observance of Juneteenth, our office will be closed on June 19. Our team will resume services on June 22.

We wish everyone a meaningful and reflective Juneteenth.

Every June 14, we take a moment to honor Flag Day and reflect on the history behind a symbol that has carried our nation through both unity and hardship.

At New Directions, we’re committed to supporting survivors and strengthening our community here in Knox County. Days like this remind us of the resilience and courage woven into our shared history—qualities we see every day in the survivors we serve.

Here are a few lesser-known facts about the flag’s evolution:
• The 50-star design was created by a 17-year-old student in 1958 and selected from more than 3,000 submissions.
• The United States has had 27 official flag versions, most updated as new states joined the Union.
• Red, white, and blue were chosen to symbolize valor, purity, and justice—values that continue to shape our nation.
• Six American flags have been placed on the moon during Apollo missions.
• Today’s design is the longest-running version, unchanged since Hawaii became a state in 1959.

We hope your Flag Day is filled with reflection, gratitude, and community pride. If you’re looking for ways to support survivors in Mount Vernon and Knox County, our team is always here to connect.

As Mother’s Day approaches, our team at New Directions wants to recognize the mothers, grandmothers, and maternal figures who create safety, compassion, and strength within our community.

We’re grateful for every caregiver who leads with love and for every supporter who helps us continue providing survivor advocacy, trauma-informed care, and essential resources.
