In approx. two hours from now, the much-awaited semifinals of the Faculty Ping Pong World championship will be held at MVNU Birch Lobby today starting 3.45 pm.

It must be noted that Prof. Tim Radcliffe (The Indefatigable) who was one of the favorites, has been laid low by sickness, and hence had to quit, and as a result, the OG gets to play in.

The winner goes on to the finals of the Faculty World Ping pong championships, which will be held the same day right after the semi-finals.

Finals are over, and students take a breather

Fall semester spanning over three months is finally over for the students and spring semester beckons for them in a month’s time. I am so proud of all the hard work the students put in their classes, and for the challenges they overcome. They fought through sickness, personal tragedies, frustrations and many more, while keeping their faith in the Lord and running their race with the finish line in mind. We had a grand semester – from pizza parties to thanksgiving potluck by the faculty, and we all enjoyed a lot. Engineering course projects enhanced the learning and senior design presentation was a huge success. There are so many highlights to boast about, but one thing is certain – we could not have ended this semester on high without the grace of the Almighty God.

Now that everybody is on their winter break, and the engineering building is pretty much empty except for a couple of faculty sitting in their offices perusing over the final answer sheets with a highly focused microscope, and a bright red pen, the absence of the students makes for an eerie feeling. The relationship with students is strong here at MVNU engineering, and we wish they can be back soon. Can’t wait to see them, but at the same time, wish them to spend some quality time with their friends and family. At the same time, I get reminded of all the graduates that passed through these doors, and hope that they are happy and safe wherever they are.

September 2nd First Friday was intended as a back-to-school celebration and featured department fairs from the four educational institutions in Mount Vernon. MVNU’s engineering department was glad to have been given an opportunity to participate, and a number of students and the four esteemed faculty joined hands to make the event a great success. Engineering students had a variety of projects to display including a candy dispenser, carbon fiber light saber, and some other complex projects among others. Visitors had an opportunity to get a tour of the building given by the faculty, and see the equipment we have, and the projects that our students have made over the years. It was absolutely fun and enjoyable!!
