Why put your tasty holiday turduckin, ham, or brisket on a beat-up butcher block? Between table builds, I take on some higher end butcher block projects like these.

Another commissioned project delivered! Custom fabricated frames finished in “Viking Grey” powder coat. 2” thick curly maple dining table with matching bench. Then a complementary console table where I book matched (think “mirror image”) the maple on the top. Client made a lot of great decisions on this project.

Custom designed & fabricated/handmade Ash and Walnut table.

This 4-seater is a standard 31" tall and 43 1/2" in diameter. Perfect for poker night, a homework touchdown spot, or if homework is already a nightly gamble, maybe it can do both?

The Ash & Walnut top is 1 3/4" thick and 100% solid wood with thin strips of solid Ash as a circumferential band. The base is 2" square steel and, being fully-welded, is a unitized piece that results in rock-solid stability (vs. a pair of legs that allow movement). Steel base powder coated in flat black. Top is finished in 6 coats of clear water-based poly then wet sanded and polished to a matte/semi sheen. This finish is unique in that it does not change the wood tone of nature's good work - it only highlights the details.

This steel frame was designed with comfortable seating for >= 8 in mind, so the legs favor the outside corners, giving lots of room for 3-4 chairs along each side and 1-2 on each end. Finish on frame is bronze powder coating and this time I used tough plastic inserts for the feet so it wouldn't do that nails-on-chalkboard thing if moved on concrete.

Thanks to my friend Wayne at Freeman's Artisan Works, I was able to personalize this one for a special Grandmother (aren't they all?). All the grands will know exactly where they should NOT sit. 😀

Ready for years of memory-building, the Teak table is done.

Progress on the Teak table. Fully sanded and set up to reflect final layout. Next up - teak oil finish with a slight golden color.

3” legs with 2” rails make this big table frame ready for blasting & powder coating. Pre-made attachment tabs for this project saved a lot of time and worked great. Can’t wait to see it in its bronze finish. Teak top coming up next.

To those who voted on what I call the “Crowdsourced Table”, it’ll be awhile before it’s built. I’m now focused on a table for the mama of the best home builder around- Greg Dimmer. Greg has more connections locally than most, so it’s a tremendous honor to have his trust in the design & build of this project. Any guesses on what he asked for, based on just this photo of the steel base parts?

Side project for my patient wife - a necklace cabinet for the master closet. 1 necklace per hanger makes finding the right one MUCH easier.
