Anywhere you travel in the world could require that you receive certain vaccinations to prevent illness while you are traveling. The type and number of vaccinations will vary greatly depending on which part of the world you will be going to and may even differ within certain countries depending on climatic and environmental differences. A future traveler should begin investigating these requirements along with other information which will help keep you healthy while you travel at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to traveling. A very high percentage of our business consists of doing onsite paramedical examinations as required by each Insurance Provider. These examinations are mandatory when securing any new individual Life, Disability or Long Term Care insurance policy and the testing varies by company. We are available to provide these examinations for all insurance companies and have over twenty years in this field. Hepatitis- Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccinations are part of the recommended Adult Immunization Schedule as provided for the CDC and may be required for certain Healthcare fields, particularly in the area of Oral Health. These diseases can be prevented with the use of these vaccinations and can prevent serious illness and death.

2. Meningitis- Meningitis is a very serious disease caused by bacterial or viral infections. It is an infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal chord and has a very high mortality rate and an even higher rate of permanent health problems. It is highly contagious and can be a very serious problem in schools or college dorms where there are high concentrations of young people. Administration of the Meningococcal vaccine to prevent Meningitis is recommended particularly in young people from 2 to 20.

3. Zoster- Zoster or Shingles as it is more commonly known is a very painful and unsightly disease which causes skin lesions in the form of blisters which may last for a very long time. It is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox which stays in your body for a lifetime and can later resurface as Shingles. It is advisable that anyone above the age of 60 who has had chickenpox receive the Zostavax vaccine. When receiving this vaccine there are certain situations you should avoid, particularly involving very young children, for a short period of time. Your nurse can tell you what these situations are.

4. Tetanus- All major Health organizations recommend that adults receive a booster tetanus vaccine every ten years. This vaccination is not a live vaccine, so a person's immunity tends to decline over time.

5. Pneumonia- Pneumonia or Pneumococcal disease is the leading cause of vaccine-preventable disease in the United States. It is caused by bacteria and anyone can get it, although certain groups , including the very young and old, along with people with weakened immune systems due to disease or smoking, are at greater risk than others. Pneumonia is a very lethal disease, particularly among these high risk groups, although vaccination can make a person much less susceptible to contracting it even under stressful conditions.

6. B-12 Injections- B12 injections are an accepted cure for people with a deficiency of this vitamin. The body's ability to absorb this vitamin diminishes with age, and it is thought that intramuscular injections of the vitamin are the best way to fix this deficiency. Health Screenings

1. Tuberculosis- Tuberculosis screening is done through a skin test in which a very small sample of tuberculin units is injected just under the surface of the skin. After 48 to 72 hours the area of the injection must be evaluated and can show the presence of tuberculosis antibodies which may indicate the possibility of exposure to tuberculosis.

2. Cholesterol- Cholesterol is a fatty substance manufactured in the liver. A small amount comes from certain foods. There is "good" cholesterol know as HDL, (High density lipoprotein) and there is "bad" cholesterol known as LDL, (Low density lipoprotein). A simple blood test can give the ranges of these two types in your body and is an excellent way to spot and prevent future heart and circulation problems.

4. Diabetes- Diabetes is a disorder in which the body is unable to properly regulate the level of sugar in the blood. It can be tested using a simple fasting test which checks the level of blood sugar. Diabetes is treatable by various means, including altering diet and the use of insulin to help the body to keep the blood sugar levels in their proper range. Untreated diabetes can lead to very serious complications including loss of sight, and even death and this simple test can help identify it.

6. Anemia- There are several different types of anemia and it is fairly common, affecting both men and women of all ages, races, and ethnic groups. Initial diagnosis of anemia is identified by a blood test, and, because it can have many causes, may require further testing when originally diagnosed in order to pinpoint the type and cause and to help guide treatment. Executive Blood Testing

1. Basic Metabolic Panel- This is a blood test which consists of a panel of 8 tests which serve as a broad screening tool which provides a broad check on kidney function, electrolytes and fluid balance.

2. Liver Function Panel- This is a series of 6 tests which deal specifically with the liver in detail. It measures six areas which give chemical information regarding the health of a person's liver and how it is functioning. A liver function panel is done by blood test.

3. Lipid Panel- The lipid panel is a group of tests that are done together to evaluate the risk of coronary heart disease. It includes cholesterol levels along with triglycerides and is done through a blood test.

4. Thyroid Panel- A thyroid panel consists of a blood withdrawal which is used to perform a group of tests to help evaluate thyroid gland function. These tests are used to measure the amount of thyroid hormones in the blood. These hormones are important in controlling your body's metabolism. The tests can help identify the existence of hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism and can be used to monitor thyroid replacement therapy.

5. PSA- The PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test is also a blood test and is used in the routine screening of men for prostate cancer. An elevated PSA level can be a symptom of prostate cancer. It can be very useful for this purpose and can detect almost 90% of all prostate cancers. This test is highly recommended for all men over 45 years old.

6. HIV Test- This test measures for the antibodies which indicate that someone is infected with the Human Immune deficiency Virus. They are extremely accurate and recommended as a part of routine standard care for all adults.

7. Blood Type- A blood test which is used to simply determine which of the eight blood types the donor possesses. Blood Pressure

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension affects over 50 million Americans and is known as "The Silent Killer" because, typically, it exhibits no warning signs. A simple blood pressure test by our health professional can identify the presence of hypertension and give you the early warning that can lead to proper care and, or, lifestyle changes. Regular checks of blood pressure can be a life-saver. Body Mass Index

Body Mass Index is a number calculated using a person's height and weight. It is a reliable way to screen for health problems based on weight and too much fat. EKG

EKG is an interpretation over time of heart activity captured and externally recorded by skin electrodes. It is non-invasive and recorded on an external electrocardiographic device. The activity is recorded on a roll of small graph paper. It can identify unusual heart rhythms or weakness in the different parts of the heart muscle. It cannot measure the pumping ability of the heart, but can be a very useful first step in identifying issues with the coronary system.
