Tornado Watch is in effect through 2AM Friday. All thunderstorms hazards will be possible with damaging winds and embedded tornadoes as the greatest threats as the line moves across Michigan. Large hail and flooding are also possible.

A Marginal to Slight Risk for severe weather exists this evening into tomorrow morning. Forecast uncertainty remains regarding how well storms will hold together as they move into Southeast Michigan. Stay weather aware and monitor forecasts for updates.

Marginal/Slight Risk for severe weather mainly this evening into tomorrow morning as a thunderstorm complex tracks from the Upper Midwest into Lower MI. There is uncertainty as to whether these storms will hold together by the time they reach SE Michigan. If storms can maintain strength, they may produce damaging winds to 60 mph and large hail to 1 inch.

The US National Weather Service Detroit / Pontiac Michigan has issued a Heat Advisory for Macomb County from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday.

Heat index values may reach up to 100Β°F. Hot temperatures and high humidity may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those spending extended periods outdoors.

Stay safe by:
β€’ Drinking plenty of water
β€’ Spending time in air-conditioned spaces
β€’ Wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
β€’ Limiting strenuous outdoor activities to the morning or evening

On this day in weather history, a derecho, a powerful and fast-moving squall line, raced through Southeast Lower Michigan.

Winds were estimated between 80 and 90 mph across portions of Tuscola, Oakland, and Macomb Counties. Nearly 300,000 homes and businesses lost power across Southeast Michigan, and total storm damage was estimated at nearly $100 million.

May 29 is Heat Awareness Day.

This day is recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Weather Service to raise awareness about the serious and preventable health risks related to heat.

Outdoor workers and others who spend extended time in the heat are especially at risk for heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion, dehydration, heatstroke, and even death.

There are simple steps you can take to stay safe:
β€’ Stay hydrated
β€’ Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
β€’ Use sunscreen
β€’ Avoid being outdoors during peak temperatures
β€’ Limit strenuous activity in the heat

Heat Awareness Day is a reminder to look out for yourself and others, especially those more vulnerable, and to take steps to prevent heat-related illness.
