I don’t think I’ve ever seen a queen this dark before! She’s a beauty! Just the faintest dark gold stripes are visible. This is a swarm captured a few weeks ago in Moscow.
Got a call about this just before dark and picked them up about 5:30 am. They almost certainly came from one of the buildings nearby…

Always interesting to do an alcohol wash and get a true mite count. The little brown ovals are the bane of honey bees... varroa destructor (aka hemolyph-sucking bastards).

Happy to save these girls that had set up house in a dead tree. They went totally unnoticed until the property owner started removing the tree. They absconded to a nearby location after robbing all the honey from their combs and I was able to collect them. Queen is already laying in her new digs. Cheers to a happy ending! 🙂
