Newfound peace in relaxing into the moment and feeling completely at home…Now that’s my idea of continuing the holiday season, being present and grateful to be exactly where I am.

What outdated beliefs do you need to change today? What is something that you have long accepted as true that is just not true in reality? Mind shift makes growth possible as new learning comes in. When we are aware of what beliefs are behind our thoughts and actions, we are able to challenge them so that we can move forward and allow ourselves and our relationships to those around us, as well as to the world in general, to adapt and expand and create a better future for all.

Happy 75th birthday to my first mentor on this journey to becoming a more effective and compassionate leader and mindset and performance coach. I feel privileged to have learned from the best and to have traveled with John and his team. Thank you for all your work, John, and for your influence and the example you have set for literally millions of people.

“Be awed!” That’s what I thought to myself when I took this picture of the amazing night skies. Why not? Be different! Think differently. “Be awed!”
All too often we want to be like everybody else. We look at others and believe that somehow who we are is not enough when compared to who they are, the job they have, the friends they have, and what they’re doing, accomplishing, experiencing, and enjoying.
If we would simply stop, be in the moment and just be amazed at our lives, that we are here and breathing and uniquely designed for this place and time, we would have that sense of “not enough” slip away into a new world of AWE.
I’m implementing some new habit hacks to help me be more present in each moment and live with more vibrancy and engagement every day. One of those is to “be awed,” ceasing the endless comparison of my life to others’ lives, stopping to celebrate the wonder of being alive and being ME, appreciating the beauty in nature all around me, and being grateful for the life I get to experience with those I love. This helps me to compare less and feel joy and gratitude more, knowing that I am EXACTLY where I’m supposed to be.
What about you? If you’re feeling the post-new-years-resolution blahs of not being where you think you’re supposed to be, comparing yourself to others who are “killing it,” and just wanting more out of life, why not try being a little more “awed?”
If you’re interested in how High Performance Habits could help you with this, DM me for more details.

Painted skies help stimulate my creativity and increase my wonder and awe at the sheer magic of being alive. How can you feel each day a little more? Where do you find inspiration? Look up…⬆️
Feeling stressed or distracted or perhaps overwhelmed? Try SLOWING TIME. Yes, that’s right, slowing time!
⠀
By taking the following actions, purposefully being more mindful, one can get the effect of slowing down time and relieving stress, minimizing distractions, and feeling more alive and vibrant each day.
⠀
1) 𝗛𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀. Breathe in more deeply; stop and take more notice of the sights, smells, and sounds around you. Become more aware of all the beauty and activity going on around you. You will notice time moving more slowly and feel more awe and wonder about the world in which you live.
⠀
2) 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. Multitask less; be more choosy about how your spend your time. Focus on each moment instead of thinking of the next thing you have to do. Be fully present with those with whom you spend time. You’ll start to appreciate them more and find yourself learning new things about those you love. Overwhelm will turn into gratitude for what you get to do - because you are choosing to do less and experience more.
⠀
3) 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀; 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. Notice how experiences, people, your environment, and just plain life make you feel. By tuning into your own emotions you also raise your awareness of how others feel and have the opportunity to share in their lives more with empathy and joy. This will add vibrancy and more charge to your life and add depth to each day.
⠀
Try SLOWING TIME and see how it changes your perspective and opens up a whole new world of more life to you.

What can seem like a complete loss can also be a new beginning.
This particular church was originally built in 1100, added to in 1391, repaired in 1631, severely damaged in the Great Fire of London in 1666, rebuilt over the course of several years, (1668, 1671, steeple and tower added by renowned architect Sir Christopher Wren from 1695-1701), found structurally unsound and torn down in 1871 (except for tower/steeple), rebuilt and opened in 1821, only to be severely damaged in the Blitz of 1941. The decision was made to not rebuild the church, as only the tower and steeple and north and south walls remained.
It seemed like the end…However, the City of London turned it into a public garden, opened in 1971, a wonderful place of peace for all who take in its beauty and serenity.
As I paused and reflected on the resiliency and determination of all who had been involved with this particular site, I was reminded that their responses to each difficulty created new beginnings from what might have seemed to be dead ends, opening new chapters for them and others to come. I was reminded of the phrase, “Change is inevitable; growth is optional.” What matters when I’m met with challenges is my response. I want to honor the struggle, be determined to grow through the changes, and set my mind to discover the beginnings in the endings.
Perspective is everything. Where focus goes, energy flows, as they say. Be sure to focus on what matters most and factor each step into the grand scheme of it all. Add wonder and awe to each moment and the path won’t seem as difficult or daunting. For me, this means noticing the small details and understanding where I stand in the big picture, and, most importantly, enjoying the journey along the way.

So much of our lives goes unnoticed. Today I’m choosing to soak in more of the wonder of being alive so that I can bring that same energy to all my interactions, to my colleagues, to my loved ones, to the stranger who may just need a smile or a kind word. How I show up matters. What energy are you purposefully absorbing and emanating today?
I’m taking time today to really listen to nature and her soothing sounds, getting grounded in the present. Taking time to release the stress of the week and tune in more with your mind and body, the spirit and the world around you can help you feel more alive and vibrant, joyful and grateful. Challenge yourself today to find the rest you need to reset and refocus for the upcoming week.

My 30-day “noticing November” Challenge interrupted my morning jog today. This is my neighbor Art, cleaning up around his place and burning (safely) all the brush and branches that had accumulated over the summer and fall, preparing for winter and the big “slow down.” I was reminded how being more conscious and aware can actually help clear out the junk we accumulate in our busy times and help us to slow down time, allowing for the IMPORTANT to take priority over what might seem urgent. Talking with Art made my day and helped me to feel more connected to my community and gave both of us the reassurance that we have someone nearby if we ever need anything. How about you? Have you taken time for the important today? How can slowing down help you to make the most of your moments?
