We have concluded the practical portions of our 48 hr. Fireground 9 class today at Cleveland Community College. Our responders completed numerous methods of advancing hoselines under live fire conditions to upper floors using ropes hoist, hook hoist, ladders, and bridging a ladder over a simulated collapsed stairwell during several basement runs. We concluded the day with "flyin' the wye" apartment load on both an upper and below grade fires with a stairwell burnout scenario under live fire conditions.
I am so proud of these 10 firefighters from across Burke and Caldwell Counties. And to our Junior and Probationary firefighters from Drowning Creek FD. You have have worked your butts off supporting our class everyday and I cannot thank you enough. They have all endured so much heat, long nights, achy bodies while conducting over 36 hours of various live fire exercises within the past 4 weeks. You earned this one brothers!

Our Ops. 9 folks learned about some ground cover and wildland urban interface live fire training last night at the ESTC, as well as performing hose tests on our attack lines. Our thanks to Drowning Creek FD Chief Wyatt Spencer for the great BBQ sandwiches for the class and Instructors Robin Triplett and Marty McGuinn for sharing their decades of wildland fire experience with our students. Slaying the "Dragon's Tail" in Burke Co. Monday night during our pit burns. Watch until the end...Fire is a very complex thing... (Several Fire tornadoes seen in slow motion)
This week...our Fireground Ops. 9 students are getting three live burn sessions including compressed and liquid fueled fires, Class A large scale burns, master stream operations, above and below grade fires, as well as ground cover fires... we are battling the heat and still pushing through the exhaustion! Keep up the great work fellas...one more week to go!
