As much as I love professional organizing, I have closed my business account at the bank and am officially ending Professional Organizing. I may still do some coaching and design for friends and family but not in a professional capacity.
My pivot is to go back to school for a career that doesn't further cripple my body.
I'm happy to refer you to other resources, but I simply can't physically haul things anymore.
Thank you so much for all of your support and love. I will miss you all!
Last year, I was very very sick. We've figured it out and I'm doing a whole lot better. Thank you for your patience with me. I'm going to post 2 videos that will likely be a huge help for most of us in the comments!
Happy New Year!

You might not be anywhere near as organized as you like, but if you take babysteps like this to reduce the incoming items, you can accomplish your own goals to be organized a bit more efficiently. Try using this as a springboard towards gifts that help you reach your goals instead of setting you back.

Here's a post from an organize something every day group through https://www.facebook.com/neatasapinorganizingexperts/ :
"True story: I will buy a pair of cheap silver hoop earrings and wear them until the silver rubs off. I throw them in the trash and buy a new pair. I have a sparkly pair for something fancy but daily earrings take a beating, so I don’t love on them too much. Then my husband started buying me James Avery earrings.
How many earrings we need depends a lot on how we wear them and how often. Sound familiar? If you like to shake things up, then one for each day of the week. If you, like me, would prefer to wear out one pair and not make earring decisions every day, two or so is plenty.
We want to wear earrings that flatter the shape of our face. If you want an all-purpose no-nonsense earring, a stud will do the trick.
Here is a quick guide for earring selections based on the shape of your face, according to Nadin Art Design:
• Oval-shaped face - The oval face narrows from the cheeks to the chin. If you have such a face, you can wear almost every earring style with oval shaped dangle earrings being ideal.
• Round face - Long geometric earrings are great for women with round shaped faces. Dangle and teardrop earrings would also be a great choice to elongate the face.
• Heart-shaped face - Long earrings with beautiful lines and curves are flattering to round faces. They balance out the face shape and draw attention to the eyes, cheekbones, and jaw line.
• Square face - Dangling and hoop earrings of elongated designs are flattering for square shaped faces. Rounded designs soften the cheekbones and the jaw line. Over-sized hoop earrings are also a great choice.
• Narrow face - Minimize the length of the narrow face with long dangle earrings. Elongated teardrop dangle earrings will accentuate the cheekbones and add some softness.
Truth: We buy things because they are pretty but don’t always work on our body. Knowing what is flattering to us will save us a ton of time and money buying things we shouldn’t be wearing.
What do you own?
Let’s look at your earrings. All of them. Performing this stage of process is probably best done at a table or lay a blanket across your made bed. Some earrings are small, and you certainly don’t want one get lost in your bed or fall down the drain. If you have a lot, you want to be able to spread out.
Look in your jewelry box, closet, bathroom, kitchen, your car, your purse, the purse you carried last year, your desk, or anywhere else you may absentmindedly remove a pair of earrings.
Remove the trash.
Let’s get to it. There is no need to prolong the inevitable.
Here are your trash categories:
• Incomplete pairs
• Anything that turns your skin green
• Anything green or with plating peeling off
• Anything ugly or outdated
• Anything you would never – ever wear
• Anything you have never worn
• Anything that makes you feel bad or sad
• Anything from a broken relationship from the past (see Truth above)
Sentimental earrings can be stored in the same box as your bracelets and rings, I like these: https://loom.ly/NbeLYpk but I would not store them with your daily wear earrings. They will only get in the way.
Pick your favorites.
Do you have a favorite set of earrings? Set those aside.
Assess and sort.
What is left? Sort them into styles (hoops, dangles, studs, etc) or by occasion or both. Do you have duplicates or some very similar? Keep those you like better. Do you have earrings you would choose time and again over others? Let the others go. Do you have earrings you like but need repairs, take them within 48 hours or let them go.
Clean.
Clean everything you plan to keep. Clean the area where you store them as well.
Store.
Straight-up, I am not a fan of clever earring storage. You want your storage to be easy and look nice. Unless you have a built-in, velvet-lined, earring drawer in your closet, I like covered trays far better than the dangling stands or even jewelry box drawers. If you only have a few, the jewelry box drawers are fine, but if you prefer an earring collection, the boxes are way better.
This is one I like very much: https://loom.ly/BzVJ2FA You can buy several and they can stack neatly on a shelf or get tucked away in a drawer. If you want to find one on your own, opt for the small square openings instead of the variety where the earring inserts into a little stand.
Donate and discard.
Earrings are great donations and heirloom pieces can be gifted to family members."

If you aren't sure how to display your favorite jewelry pieces that you don't wear, this lady makes gorgeous works of art. I'm not sure what she charges but it looks like it'd be worth saving up for!
This was written by a respected colleague:
"Truth: All the things we own have a carrying cost associated with them. The less we use them, the more they cost us.
Here is an example: If you find a $300 pair of dress shoes on sale for $50, you think you are saving $250. They sit in your closet unworn for 10 years. If the carrying cost of the shoes are $5 per month to heat, cool, insure, work around, organize, clean, declutter, etc; the shoes end up costing you $600. Take the same pair of shoes, if you wear them 3 times a year to go to parties, they only cost you $20 to own.
That hurt a little. Sorry, not sorry."

Do not ever declutter others' things without permission while they are still living.
I cannot tell you how many people I have worked with who have trauma response from others tossing things they care about without permission. This can be crippling to someone wanting to get help for organizing, but trust has been broken this way. Always, always, get permission
💝💔💝
This does not prevent you from containerizing things by category with permission. Having containers with only one category may help facilitate the decision-making process.

We don't all have the same needs. Let this video give you some ideas to tweak what is already working for you. Also, note that you can sometimes order extra bins made for your fridge. It's customizable in some cases. My last fridge, I added 1 extra door bin, and it made much better use of that space. If you don't have a labeler, extra-sticky notes, or photos and tape, work well to help family/housemates learn new systems so you hopefully have help keeping it organized.
