Our final post on this page. Haloparc closed it's business for one reason and only one reason. We grew tired of Oklahoma's tax burden. On top of the added taxes from doing business, we were assessed a $5,000.00 annual 'tax' I viewed as a 'penalty' for just having a business in Oklahoma. In order to survive in a business such as ours, we would have had to greatly increase our margins by charging the client much more and decreasing the pay to our independent contractors. That would make us no better than those major companies who take advantage of their contractors and overcharge their clients. We never wanted to be that way. We offered a better solution for fair price but in order to compete in this market place you have to join the ethos of the larger players then fight them for a share of the market. Oklahoma's taxes for businesses like Haloparc are structured to get in the way of making an offering like what we had. In order to 'play' in this market space you need to 'drink the Kool-Aid'. If you don't, you will be taxed out of business unless you can grow very quickly in order to support the tax burden of Oklahoma. We were organically grown. Every dollar went back into the company. We were never in debt as a result. We grew as our billing grew. Our vision was to have a better option for independent contractors to get into the bigger jobs without losing 25 to 35% of their labor to these larger companies. It is sad that it didn't work out and as a result, those few big companies are still cashing in on people's labor in embarrassing amounts. Perhaps if Oklahoma stops penalizing young start-ups, someone will once again give it a go at setting a fairer environment for the contractors whose labor is the backbone of the contracting industry. That's it in a nutshell folks.

Get a sidecar 1 TB hard drive and back up your computer to it... unplug it till you do it again the following week... or month. simple. After any major work you do, perform another backup while you go grab a coffee refill. It is very easy to do!
