PUBLIC MEETING: GILE FLOWAGE FISHERIES UPDATE-6/25 @ 6PM Iron County Courthouse
How are your favorite fish species doing in Gile Flowage? The Flowage supports a locally important and nationally revered sport fishery. As such, annual monitoring of the fish community is conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Zach Lawson-WDNR Fisheries Biologist will present an update from recent survey efforts to provide a current status of the overall fishery. We will also discuss progress made on focused management efforts to improve the panfishery, and plans for future Flowage fish management. Gile. Bring your questions and discussion items regarding the Gile or any other fisheries of interest in northern Iron County, Wisconsin.
Zach Lawson is the fisheries management biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources out of the Ashland office. His management jurisdiction includes all inland lakes, rivers, and streams within Iron and Ashland Counties, including the Gile Flowage.

Everyone is invited to attend the 21st Friends of the Gile Flowage (FOG) Annual Meeting on Saturday, June 1 from 9:00 am - 10:15 am at the Do Drop Inn on Hwy. 77 in downtown Pence, WI.
Meeting items include discussion and ideas for Gile Flowage stewardship projects, news about the Gile Flowage purchase, elections, and more. Prizes donated by the FOG Board members, treats, and coffee will be provided.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded a $4.1 Million grant for Gile Flowage Land Conservation Project through the Iron County Forestry Department. The project will protect over 1,055 acres of the Gile Flowage’s pristine wetlands, rugged shoreline, and upland hardwoods for public benefit and access in perpetuity. The Friends of the Gile Flowage (FOG) helped with grant development and will assist with project public involvement. The Gile Flowage Land Conservation Project is one of only 30 projects nationwide selected for funding. The project is 100% grant funded with no local match will be required.
