Recently, Southern Union State Community College Success Coach Stephen Savage has been actively engaging students across campuses and communities—creating meaningful connections and opening doors to opportunity.

From welcoming new students and hosting program open houses to highlighting hands-on training in electrical, machining, mechatronics, and engineering and design, these moments reflect a shared mission: helping students see what’s possible and how to get there.

As part of these efforts, Success Coach Stephen Savage connected with a remarkable group of young women at the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch, alongside members of the Lake Martin-Dadeville Area Kiwanis Club.

The visit focused on a simple but powerful goal: helping students in grades 8–12 begin thinking about life after high school and the opportunities available to them.

Through conversations centered on Cost, Convenience, and Career, students were able to better understand their options and how education can lead to financial independence and long-term stability.

Across every interaction—whether on campus or in the community—students are asking questions, engaging, and beginning to picture their own path forward.

At Southern Union, the Success Coach Program is about more than guidance—it’s about connection, access, and empowering the next generation of Alabama’s workforce.

One program. One mission. Real impact.

Thanks to Northwest Shoals Community College, Credential College has served 203 individuals, provided opportunities for participants to build skills, gain confidence, and take meaningful steps toward their career goals.

Through hands-on training and career readiness programming, students earned a wide range of industry-recognized credentials, including OSHA certifications, Alabama Career Essentials (ACE), Mobilizing Alabama Pathways (MAPs), WorkKeys, MSSC credentials, and CDL permits.

These achievements represent more than completed coursework—they reflect individuals gaining the tools needed to move forward with purpose.

Credential College creates an environment where students can grow, whether they are just beginning their workforce journey or working to strengthen their existing skills.

By embedding credentials into programs like Industrial Maintenance, Sonography, Adult Education, and Pharmacy Technician training, students are able to build momentum through stackable, career-aligned pathways.

Partnerships with community organizations and employers further enhance this impact, connecting students to real-world opportunities and supporting their transition into the workforce.

Programs like FORWARD provide structure, consistency, and encouragement, helping participants stay engaged and focused on their goals.

Overall, Credential College is helping students turn opportunity into progress—equipping them with the skills, credentials, and confidence to pursue sustainable careers and a stronger future.

Behind every credential is a story of commitment. Students showed up, stayed focused, expanded their skills, and took meaningful steps forward—many now continuing into employment, advanced training, and long-term career pathways.
