FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Senator Kirk Hatcher to Run for Senate District 26

MONTGOMERY, AL — State Senator Kirk Hatcher announced today that he will run for the Senate District 26 seat in the Special Primary Election called by Governor Kay Ivey for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, a contest created when the State's redistricting battle voided the May 19 primary results.

"It does not matter what the court decides; what matters is that the job is not finished," Hatcher said. "This district is being asked to vote again because the lines keep getting fought over in courtrooms far from here. The people of Senate District 26 deserve a senator who shows up, no matter how many times they reset the calendar."

He served as a classroom teacher for two decades before being called home to entering public service. "Families want a fair shot, a good school for their kids, safe streets, the chance to build a good life through hard work," he said. "Public service should never be about politics. It should be about listening and showing up."

He placed the election in the long arc of Alabama's voting-rights history, weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais narrowed the Voting Rights Act, three years after the same Court, in Allen v. Milligan, told Alabama that Section 2 still meant what it said.

"This is not a state without memory. Montgomery knows what voter suppression looks like. The Black Belt knows. Selma knows," Hatcher said. "There's a sentence my late mother used to ask: I thought we already fought through this. The work in front of us is older than this Court, and it will outlast it. Keeping faith with the people who paid for the franchise is not a promise; it's the assignment."

"I'm ready to continue the work," Hatcher said. "The people of this district have a fight in front of them, and they deserve a senator who's in it with them. I am."

Senator Kirk Hatcher Announces Campaign for Alabama Senate District 25

MONTGOMERY, Al — Today, State Senator Kirk Hatcher announced his candidacy for Alabama Senate District 25, reaffirming his commitment to continue serving the people of Montgomery and the River Region with integrity, vision, and an unwavering focus on opportunity for all.

“I am honored to announce my campaign for the Alabama Senate in District 25, a district shaped by our community’s voices and aspirations,” said Hatcher. “Throughout my time in public service, we have expanded educational access, strengthened local economies, and ensured that every resident has a fair shot at success. I look forward to continuing to build on that work as your state senator, listening to neighbors across our new district, and fighting every day for our shared future.”

A native of Montgomery, Hatcher has served in the Alabama State Legislature since 2018, first representing House District 78 and later being elected to the Alabama Senate in a 2021 special election to represent Senate District 26. During his tenure, he has focused on education, economic development, and community-driven policy solutions that uplift families and small businesses.

“As we look ahead to the 2026 election cycle, I am energized by the possibility of deepening my service to District 25,” Hatcher said. “This campaign is about listening first, to the citizens of the district, and then working together to deliver results that reflect our shared values and potential.”
