Question: My soil has big cracks around the foundation is this bad for my foundation?

Soil separation is not good for your foundation. Soaker hoses placed about 2 feet away from your foundation to restore the moisture in your soil are very important if you don't have a sprinkler system. This is why I like sprinklers all the way around the foundation watering your plants and grass. It's also not good for your foundation to have one side of the home dry and the other side moist or really wet. Balance the moisture all the way around your foundation the best you can. Also, don't run a water hose in those cracks in the soil thinking this is good for the foundation. Again, keep an eye on moisture all the way around your foundation but don't over water either.

The soil cracks will close up once you balance the moisture around your home foundation. One more tip when we do get rain again make sure you are not ponding water near your foundation. You don't want water to stand, or pond make sure water drains away from your foundation.

Hurricane season tips.

Hurricane season is here so protecting your home from water damage is so important. Make sure your gutters are clean and windows and doors are well caulked.

What happens during hurricanes we get horizontal rains and strong winds. Which might lift-up some of the first course of shingles allowing water into your home.

Also, if your gutters are not clean and can't remove the water fast enough and the horizontal rain and winds blows that standing water into your soffits it can allow water to travel down the exterior walls and into your home. Check your gutters.
