The morning started like any other.
Coffee brewing.
Chains being sharpened.
Justin already working before sunrise.

Then a pickup truck rolled into the yard.
Nobody recognized it.

A young guy climbed out.
Maybe twenty.
Nervous.
Trying not to look nervous.

Jennifer looked up from her paperwork.
"Can I help you?"

The young man nodded.
"I heard you might be hiring."

Justin glanced over.
Then back to the saw he was working on.
"Hiring for what?"

The young man blinked.
"Tree work."

Justin laughed.
"Good answer."

Jordan smirked.
Jagger whispered:
"He's gonna scare him off."

The kid spent the day dragging brush.
By lunch, he was exhausted.
By afternoon, he was questioning every life decision he'd ever made.

Jayhli handed him a bottle of water.
"Tough day?"

The kid nodded.
Jayhli laughed.
"You should've seen my first week."

The kid looked around.
"How long have you worked here?"

Jayhli smiled.
"Long enough to know tomorrow hurts worse."

The whole crew laughed.

At the end of the day...
The kid came back to Justin.
"You coming back tomorrow?" Justin asked.

The kid hesitated.
Looked at his blistered hands.
Then nodded.

Justin smiled.
"Good."

Because J AND J wasn't built in one day either.

Episode 1 – "The Long Way Around"

The storms had finally passed.
For the first time in weeks, the phones at J AND J weren't ringing off the hook.

The trucks were parked.
The chainsaws were cleaned.
And for a brief moment...
Things were quiet.

Justin stood outside the shop with his coffee.
The morning sun was just coming up.
For the first time in a long time, he didn't feel rushed.
Then he noticed a truck already running.

"Who in the world is here this early?"
He walked across the yard.

And there she was.
Jayhli.

Loading fuel cans.
Checking ropes.
Getting ready for the day.
Justin shook his head.
"You know this is how bad habits start."

Jayhli laughed.
"I learned from the best."

"That's exactly what worries me."

Jennifer stepped out of the office carrying paperwork.
She looked at Justin.
Then Jayhli.
Then back to Justin.
"Congratulations."

"What?" he asked
"You finally cloned yourself."
Even Justin laughed at that.

Jordan pulled into the yard.
Looked at Jayhli.
Looked at the loaded truck.
"You beat Dad here again?"

"Maybe." She smirked

Jagger appeared from nowhere.
Still half asleep.
"This family has a problem."

Nobody argued.

A few hours later, the crew was working a routine removal.
Nothing dramatic.
Just another day doing what J AND J had done for years.

Jayhli dragged brush.
Loaded limbs.
Ran equipment.
Never complained.

Jordan watched for a minute.
"You know..."

Jayhli rolled her eyes.
"Here we go."

"You built a place that's supposed to sell breakfast."

"Yes." She answered

"But now you're covered in sawdust."
"Yes…. “

"And mud."

"Yes."

"And you're carrying brush."

Jayhli stopped.
"Do you have a point?"

He grinned.
"Just making sure your breakfast tacos are gonna have extra flavor."

The whole crew burst out laughing.
Even Justin.

But later...
When nobody was paying attention...
Jayhli checked her phone.

Savings account.
Closer.
Not there yet.
But closer.
She smiled.
Put the phone away.
And grabbed another load of brush.

Across the yard...
Jennifer watched the whole thing.

The work.
The sacrifice.
The determination.
She knew what nobody else did.
The dream wasn't on hold.
It was being funded.
One day at a time.
One job at a time.
One paycheck at a time.

That evening...
The last truck rolled into the yard.
The sun dipped low.
And everyone headed home.

Everyone except Jayhli.
She sat in her truck for a moment.
Looking toward the farmhouse in the distance.

The sign still covered.
The dream still waiting.
Then she smiled.
Started the engine.
And headed home.
Because waiting isn't quitting.
