Weathervane Weather
I am an amateur weather forecaster that loves to share his love for weather, specifically severe weather and snowstorms.
Please note that I am NOT a professional meteorologist, and I do not pretend to be one. I have never gone to school for meteorology, but have spent hundreds and hundreds of hours researching and studying weather, specifically severe weather and snowstorms. Feel free to share this page with your friends and family!
I know you all haven't heard from me for a bit, but I want you to know I'm going to be following Hurricane Ian very closely this week, as I have a special event planned on Saturday on the Bay. Right now I believe that all forecasts are too early in terms of when it finally makes it up to us. The trough is too shallow and lifts out too quickly for Ian. He is left wandering around the southeast states for two or 3 days as a cold core extra tropical system. May have a tough time gaining enough latitude for our area. Regardless, at this moment I believe we don't see any real remnant's until Saturday night into Sunday.

Perfect position imho for us to get a back end thump after the initial snow.
WARNING: Dont freak out tomorrow when the snow stops and you don't have as much as you'd like.
Game time people.....get your shovels and boots ready! Yes!!

Models are showing the storm stalling outside Atlantic City which would give most of MD some back end snow starting Monday afternoon, ending Monday night. This is in addition to the nice picturesque snow which should start by the time people wake up. Silver Spring should expect 5-7" Sunday, followed by the Monday back end thump
Watching this storm has me listening to:

Someone finally woke the snow gods or goddesses..... loving 7-10" for Mo county!
I'll be posting more leading up to the event but BELIEVE THE HYPE. Honestly, at this point I think the storm may be under hyped for the DC area.
My initial forecast for my current location (Silver Spring) is 7-9"
And the changeover has occurred. Temps have stayed a bit lower though so there's a chance of some back end snow tonight.
Temps are holding nicely..... there's a chance this thing might not change over.
Enjoy this initial burst of snow that should be getting to us in an hour or so because its definitely going to change over to rain or a rain/sleet mix for most of the area. People to the NW of DC could stay mostly snow, but the immediate DC area will see whatever snow does accumulate between 10 and noon washed away by the rain. It may flip back once the sun goes down, but nothing to write home about.

This afternoons European model run. I'd say cut these amounts in half right now....

Hello everybody! With this being the first legit winter storm chance in quite a long time, I will be posting some updates. With that said, I'm not all that confident in what's going to happen. There WILL be some people not too far from the immediate DC area getting substantial snow but the cutoff will be sharp. At this point I like this potential snowfall map the best.
More to come
Be careful out there. Theres a nasty storm headed our way capable of producing tornados in Frederick, Montgomery, and Howard for the next hour.
