The Most Underrated Job in Construction
Everyone wants to be the plumber, electrician, roofer…
And yeah, those are solid trades.
But the most slept-on opportunity in this industry?
Draftsmen.
I just had lunch with an architect and we were talking about how there’s a serious shortage right
now. Not enough architects. Not enough draftsmen. And demand is only going up.
Here’s the part nobody tells you…
You don’t need a license to be a draftsman.
You don’t need years of school.
If you can learn the software, understand city requirements, and put in reps… within a year you
can be charging $100/hour.
No joke.
You can work as much or as little as you want. Take on your own clients. Work with builders,
architects, homeowners.
And most people don’t even know this path exists.
Everyone’s fighting over the same trades… while this lane is wide open.
If you’re young or looking for a pivot, this is one to seriously look into.
Save this. This one could change your direction.

Lots of progress at this custom home build project in Pacific Grove. Paper & Lath, Sheetrock/plaster, front courtyard and retaining wall work. Cabinets coming next week. Another few months and this show piece will be ready for the owners to enjoy.

Building custom arches for windows, doors and interior openings can take time. It’s these types of details that make this house have a unique design. We are starting the window and door installation phase at our Pacific Grove new custom home build project. Also prepped all the vaulted ceilings for all our real white oak wood interior box beams and boxed rafters to be installed. Our clients are so happy with the progress!
So many new details still to come.
