Inner Rhythms
Holistic massage, pregnancy care, and customized skincare in Monterey supporting balance and wellness.
This time is for you, ✨ it’s your session 💕
There has been a quiet shift happening behind the scenes at Inner Rhythms. 🌹
As my work has evolved, I’ve found myself reflecting on what women are truly seeking when they come through my doors.
While bodywork, birthwork, and skincare are part of what I offer, they are not the heart of the work.
The heart of the work is restoration.
But what does restoration actually mean?
It isn’t about fixing something that is broken.
It isn’t about becoming someone new.
Restoration is the gentle return to what has always been there.
It’s returning to your body after years of living in your head.
Returning to yourself after becoming a mother.
Returning to trust after loss.
Returning to softness after survival.
Returning to your own inner wisdom after spending so much of life caring for everyone else.
At Inner Rhythms, I believe our bodies carry stories, seasons, memories, and immense wisdom.
Sometimes what we need most isn’t more doing.
It’s a place to pause.
To listen.
To soften.
To remember.
A place where the nervous system can exhale.
A place where the body feels safe enough to heal.
A place to return to your natural rhythm.
This is why I’ve updated my page to reflect the deeper intention behind my work:
🌹 Sacred Restoration
For women in seasons of transformation.
Whether you’re navigating fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, grief, burnout, healing, or simply feeling called back to yourself, know that you are welcome here.
Your body is sacred.
And you deserve care that honors every season you move through.
Welcome home.
With love,
Ashley

There’s a version of postpartum that nobody really prepares you for.
The one after the meal trains stop.
After the newborn photos are posted.
After everyone assumes you’ve “adjusted.”
This was me.
A mother to a one year old, a four year old, and a teenager — trying to hold everyone together while quietly unraveling inside.
while trying to hold together motherhood, work, my nervous system, and my identity all at once.
And the hardest part?
After the first year, so many moms stop being checked on.
The only things I consistently did for myself were walking… and massage.
Not because massage fixed everything — but because it was safe touch.
Touch that didn’t need anything from me.
No one pulling, asking, needing, or expecting.
Just a space for my body to be held, supported, and allowed to soften for a moment.
This is why postpartum bodywork matters so deeply to me.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my doula asked me a simple question:
“Is there any word, color, or energy you don’t want in your birth space?”
Without hesitation, I said: surrender.
Even saying it felt uncomfortable.
My body reacted before I could explain why.
At the time, surrender felt like giving up.
Like losing control.
Like being asked to soften when everything in me wanted to hold on.
But pregnancy—and eventually birth—has a way of revealing the places we grip the hardest.
I didn’t fully understand it then,
but my resistance to that word was telling a deeper story.
So many of us are taught to push through,
to stay strong,
to hold it all together.
But the body speaks a different language.
It moves in rhythms.
In cycles.
In moments of holding… and moments of letting go.
Lately, I’ve been sitting with what it means to soften without losing yourself.
To trust the body without forcing it.
To be present without bracing for what’s next.
This is something I’m exploring more deeply right now—
especially through the lens of pregnancy, birth, and the transitions we move through as women.

What does a doula actually do? 🤰
A doula is your constant support person through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
While nurses rotate, we stay with you—
supporting you and your partner emotionally, physically, and mentally.
That can look like:
• Hands-on comfort during labor
• Helping you understand what your body is doing
• Creating a calm, grounded space
• Supporting feeding, recovery, and confidence after birth
We don’t replace partners—we support both of you.
✨ If you’re in Monterey and want this kind of support, I’d love to connect.

Cycle awareness = creative power 🦋
About 18 months ago, we received an email from the brilliant, award-winning film director, Chloé Zhao...
She shared how menstrual cycle awareness and our books, Wild Power and Wise Power were supporting her through her midlife quickening challenges.
We met up and had a gorgeous lunch talking about the power of menstrual cycle awareness - especially for creativity. And we were delighted when she told us that she listens to the Menstruality podcast!
We invited her to join us as a guest once her film Hamnet was out in the world.
Even in the middle of a busy run-up to the Oscars, where Hamnet was up for eight nominations (and for which Jessie Buckley won best actress!) she sat down to speak with us, both about how menstrual cycle awareness has helped her personally, and how it informed her creative process with Hamnet.
We're really looking forward to sharing the episode with you later this week.
