Repost โ˜€๏ธHey ! Are you ready for this weekend? ๐ŸŒ’

On Saturday, October 14, the moon will partially block part of the sun as part of a solar eclipse.

While some parts of the country will be immersed in near total darkness, Montebello and all of Southern California will see roughly 70% of the sun covered by the moon for a short time. This means that we will experience a partial solar eclipse as there will still be sunlight during this short time before the moon completes its pass.

To properly enjoy this weekend's partial solar eclipse, which will reach its maximum eclipse at 9:24 a.m., we encourage everyone to wear proper eye protection before looking to the sky above to see this rare phenomenon.

๐ŸฆŸThe Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District (GLACVCD) has confirmed that a mosquito recently trapped in Montebello tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).

WNV is transmitted to people and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. There is no cure for WNV. One in five persons infected with the virus will exhibit symptoms. Symptoms can include fever, headache, body aches, nausea, or a skin rash. There is no human vaccine for WNV, and severe cases can lead to paralysis or even death.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant for mosquitos in the local area and can take steps to deter mosquitos such as:

- Eliminate standing water in clogged rain gutters, rain barrels, discarded tires, buckets, watering troughs or anything that holds water for over a week ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ’ฆ
- Ensure that swimming pools, spas, and ponds are properly maintained ๐ŸŠ
- Change the water in pet dishes, birdbaths and other small containers weekly ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฆ
- Wear insect repellent when outdoors where mosquitoes may be present ๐Ÿงด
- Report neglected (green) swimming pools in your neighborhood to GLACVCD ๐Ÿคณ

Mosquito control is a shared responsibility, so let's all do our part to take an active role in reducing the threat of WNV in !
