Partners for Health Foundation has signed onto two comment letters regarding a proposed rule from the U.S. Department of Education that would narrow the definition of which graduate programs qualify as “professional degrees” for federal student loan purposes. The rule would potentially limit borrowing for students pursuing degrees in fields such as nursing, public health, physician assistant studies, and social work—professions essential to the nation’s health workforce.
Finalizing this rule will result in reduced access to care, by making graduate education less affordable, disrupting health workforce pipelines, and creating obstacles for students to enter essential health and human-services professions.
Visit https://partnersfdn.org/community-letters/ to learn more about the two letters prepared by Grantmakers In Health, and the RWJFoundation.
