We still have a fun assortment of colors in our young birds. If anyone is looking for pullets to round out their flock, we've got your color!

It's that time of year again! I'm not telling anyone what to do but I am sharing what I do. Each spring and early fall I give my chickens a dose of diatomaceous earth. I mix it into the food in the scoop so it coats the pellets and then put it in their open dish. I believe it helps them and it has never been followed by any crazy decline in their health so I don't think it hurts them. It's just what I do.

Homesteading ingenuity at its finest! We ended up with about 35 extra birds after chick season so I decided to build a new coop to grow them up. We took an old play scape tower and reworked it into a very effective coop!

Here's our final box of babies. There's a good mix of Rhode Island reds, Lavender Orpingtons and Splash Orpingtons.

They are hard to count at this point but I believe we have eleven brand new babies hatched out.

Seven hatched and counting!!

The last batch of eggs for this season have gone in the hatcher. This batch has some splash Orpingtons, Rhode Island reds and some Lavender Orpingtons. I can't wait to see what hatches!
