Congratulations to all graduating classes of 2026! We can only imagine how excited some of you are excited to have a break from school and enjoy what summer has to offer. There are so many messages we could share about safe walking, driving, boating, bicycling, hiking, and more. Here’s a few for everyone to keep in mind:
• Celebrate responsibly. Drive sober or get a ride. Handle fireworks safely.
• Know your limits. Choose manageable hiking trails and places to swim based on your skill level.
• Stay cool. Don’t overexert yourself in warm and hot temperatures. Keep hydrated. Seek out local cooling centers. Keep a cool head too.
• Be alert. Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t be distracted on your phone when driving, walking, or jogging. Call 9-1-1 to report suspicious behavior.
• Slow down. Keep to the speed limit. Don’t overextend yourself in activities.
Enjoy your summer!

Important water safety tips from Snohomish Volunteer Search & Rescue.
💧 Water Safety Reminder 💧
As the weather warms up, we’re seeing more people heading out to enjoy rivers, waterfalls, and alpine lakes. While the air may be warm, the water is often still very cold and can be much more dangerous than it appears.
A few simple reminders before your next adventure:
🌊 Stay back from riverbanks, waterfall edges, and slippery rocks.
❄️ Rivers and alpine lakes stay cold year-round and can quickly lead to cold water shock if you fall in.
🏊 Wear a life jacket when you’re on or near the water. Even strong swimmers can get into trouble in cold, moving water.
🐕 Keep pets on a leash around rivers and waterfalls. Many incidents start when a dog gets into trouble near the water.
🚫 Avoid climbing on logs near rivers. Logs can shift unexpectedly and often have powerful currents moving underneath or around them.
👥 Travel with a partner when possible and let someone know where you’re going and when you plan to return.
We respond to water-related incidents every year, and many of them start with a simple slip, trip, or unexpected fall. Take a few extra precautions so your day outdoors ends with good memories.
Stay safe and enjoy the outdoors.

If you’re making plans to park your car for an extended period at a park, trail head, or shopping center, be sure to keep valuables in your car out of sight to prevent a car prowl.
Car prowls are crimes of opportunity in that thieves make a split-second decision to break into a vehicle because they believe there is something valuable in the car. Large parking locations are prime targets for a prowler since multiple vehicles can be hit in a short time span. It takes thieves seconds to break in and steal items.
Tips to prevent a car prowl:
• Remove all valuables from your vehicle (e.g. money, credit cards, jewelry, garage door opener, wallets, purses, keys, computer and phone devices, mail, car registration/title, shopping bags) whether your car is parked at home or elsewhere.
• Roll up the windows, close the sunroof, and lock all doors.
• Secure the trunk, hatches, bed-mounted toolboxes, and canopies.
• Activate your car alarm.
• Park in a garage or secure location whenever possible.
• Park in well-lit areas where your car can be seen.
• Park near locations frequently used by pedestrians. Avoid isolated areas.
If you are victim of a car prowl in Monroe city limits, report it to us by calling our non-emergency number 425-407-3999.
