This morning around 5:30am, Stepney was dispatched for a reported gas truck rolled over at the intersection of Hattertown Rd/Guinea Rd. Stepney Firefighters and Monroe CT Police Department arrived on scene to find a home heating oil truck rolled over actively leaking oil. There were no injuries reported to parties involved. It was found that the oil truck was full at 3,300 gallons. Immediate notifications were made to CT DEEP. Crews on scene attempted to control the oil leak with HAZMAT equipment but due to the volume of oil leaking, waterways being involved, and the heavy rain conditions, Fire personnel called for assistance from Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, No.1 Inc. and a response from The Monroe Fire Marshal along with a notification made to Fairfield County HAZMAT team, and responses from CT DEEP, Aquarion, Monroe DPW, Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service , and ACV/Republic. Representatives arrived on scene and quickly began environmental cleanup. Bud's Truck and Diesel Service Inc. arrived on scene for removal of the fuel truck. Crews remained on scene for about 4 hours until the the truck was removed from scene and the scene was handed over to CT DEEP. Environmental clean up is still underway, please expect delays in the area.

When you come out to support the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department, you are helping more than you know…apparatus and technology continue to change, and continuous training is needed to make sure all our volunteer firefighters are fully prepared to best serve the community.

Crews were out providing RIT for Newtown as they worked a structure fire in a small strip mall. Crews were later returned back in service with no RIT team deployment.
