๐Ÿ“Š ROBERTSON PRODUCE MARKET REPORT
Week of May 30, 2026

As we move into June, produce and protein markets continue to be heavily influenced by weather, seasonal transitions, tight supplies, and transportation costs. While several commodities are beginning to improve, others remain under significant pressure.

๐Ÿฅ‘ AVOCADOS REMAIN THE BIGGEST MARKET CONCERN

The avocado market has reached critical levels as major suppliers have declared Force Majeure due to ongoing supply shortages in Mexico. Harvest volumes remain below demand, and pricing continues to increase rapidly. Additional volume from California, Colombia, and Peru is expected to provide some relief later in June, but customers should continue to expect elevated markets and potential supply challenges in the near term.

๐Ÿฅฌ LETTUCE MARKETS REMAIN EXTREMELY TIGHT

Rain and disease pressure in Californiaโ€™s Salinas Valley continue to impact production and harvesting schedules. Romaine, Romaine Hearts, Green Leaf, Red Leaf, Butter Lettuce, Celery, and several specialty vegetable categories remain under pressure with prorates and elevated pricing common throughout the industry.

The most challenged items currently include:

โ€ข Romaine Lettuce
โ€ข Green Leaf Lettuce
โ€ข Red Leaf Lettuce
โ€ข Brussels Sprouts
โ€ข Artichokes
โ€ข Celery
โ€ข Fennel
โ€ข Kale
โ€ข Carrots

๐Ÿ… TOMATO MARKETS SHOWING IMPROVEMENT

After several weeks of elevated pricing, tomato supplies are improving as production increases throughout Mexico while Florida, Georgia, and other East Coast growing regions continue to ramp up. Markets are beginning to stabilize and availability continues to improve heading into June.

๐Ÿง„ GARLIC TRANSITION UNDERWAY

The domestic garlic season is nearing completion and the industry is preparing for its annual transition to imported Mexican garlic while waiting on the new California crop. Current forecasts indicate this transition period should last approximately five weeks beginning in late June. Supplies are expected to remain available, although some market volatility and country-of-origin changes may occur during the transition.

๐Ÿ“ BERRIES AND MELONS OFFER POSITIVE NEWS

Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, watermelons, cantaloupes, and honeydews continue to improve as California and Arizona production increases. Summer fruit availability continues to build and quality remains strong across most categories.

๐Ÿ‹ CITRUS AND LIMES REMAIN ACTIVE

Lime supplies are improving, but larger fruit sizes remain difficult to source. Similar challenges continue across lemons, oranges, mandarins, and specialty citrus, where smaller foodservice-preferred sizes remain limited. Customers should remain flexible on sizing as the market works through these supply challenges.

๐Ÿฅ” ONIONS, POTATOES & SWEET POTATOES

Onion supplies continue to improve as California and New Mexico harvests expand. Potato supplies remain stable, although larger counts are becoming tighter as the industry manages inventories ahead of new crop production. Sweet potatoes continue to experience tightening supplies as the industry works through remaining storage inventories before new crop harvest begins later this summer.

๐Ÿฅฉ PROTEIN MARKET UPDATE

Beef markets remain historically high due to continued cattle shortages across the United States. While some grilling cuts have softened slightly following Memorial Day demand, overall beef pricing remains elevated and supplies remain tight.

Pork markets remain considerably more stable. Strong demand for butts, loins, and hams continues to support the market heading into summer grilling season, while bellies remain the most volatile category.

๐Ÿšš FREIGHT & TRANSPORTATION

Transportation costs continue to place upward pressure on food costs nationwide. Limited truck availability, elevated fuel prices, and increasing freight surcharges continue to impact delivered produce and protein costs across the supply chain.

๐Ÿ”Ž ROBERTSON PRODUCE OUTLOOK

The overall market picture heading into June remains mixed.

Improving:
โœ… Tomatoes
โœ… Berries
โœ… Watermelons
โœ… Melons
โœ… Onions

Watch Closely:
โš ๏ธ Avocados
โš ๏ธ Romaine & Leaf Lettuce
โš ๏ธ Brussels Sprouts
โš ๏ธ Celery
โš ๏ธ Garlic Transition
โš ๏ธ Citrus Sizing
โš ๏ธ Freight Costs

Robertson Produce continues to work closely with growers, suppliers, and transportation partners to ensure the highest level of service possible while navigating changing market conditions. We appreciate the trust our customers place in us and will continue providing timely market updates as conditions evolve.

๐Ÿ“ Robertson Produce Market Report โ€” May 14, 2026

Fresh produce markets remain highly active and volatile this week. Weather, field transitions, tight supplies, and freight pressure are still affecting several major categories across the country.

๐Ÿฅฌ Lettuce & leafy greens remain the biggest concern.
Iceberg, Romaine, Romaine Hearts, Green Leaf, Red Leaf, Boston/Butter Lettuce, Broccoli, Broccolini, Celery, Carrots, Cauliflower, and Asparagus are all under heavy supply pressure. Prorates and substitutions should be expected on several of these items, especially Romaine and Iceberg. Relief is not expected until closer to the end of May on some categories.

๐Ÿ… Tomatoes are beginning to improve.
Florida and Mexico production is increasing, especially on Romas. Round tomatoes should improve over the next 10โ€“14 days, while grape tomatoes are improving. Cherry and medley tomatoes remain short.

๐Ÿ‹ Limes are still escalated, but improving.
Smaller fruit is more available, while larger sizes such as 175 count and larger remain extremely tight. Substitutions to smaller sizes may be necessary through May.

๐Ÿ“ Berries are trending better.
Strawberries and blueberries are improving with stronger quality and better availability expected into June. Raspberries remain stable, while blackberries are still tighter due to heat pressure in Mexico and limited early domestic production.

๐Ÿˆ Melons are a good buy opportunity.
Cantaloupe supplies have increased with domestic and offshore product available, pushing markets lower. Watermelon supplies are also improving with more Mexican crossings and Florida starting in a small way.

๐Ÿซ‘ Peppers & squash remain active.
Green bell pepper supply is light out of South Florida and Coachella, though South Georgia should bring better volume in about two weeks. Yellow squash is especially light, keeping upward pressure on pricing.

๐Ÿ Pineapple remains tight.
Demand is strong, and customers should stay flexible on sizing to help keep supply moving.

๐ŸŽ Apples remain tighter than normal on foodservice sizes.
Washington apple crop projections have been reduced, and smaller foodservice sizes are tighter due to a larger-than-normal size profile and stronger retail/export demand.

๐Ÿš› Freight continues to be a major cost factor.
Limited truck availability and high fuel costs are putting upward pressure on freight rates, which continues to affect delivered produce costs.

โœ… Best opportunities this week:
Cantaloupes, honeydews, watermelons, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cucumbers, green beans, sweet corn, mushrooms, spring mix, potatoes, and new crop cherries/stone fruit.

โš ๏ธ Items to watch closely:
Lettuce, Romaine, broccoli, celery, carrots, cauliflower, asparagus, limes, pineapple, blackberries, bell peppers, squash, apples, and small-size citrus.

At Robertson Produce, we continue working daily with growers, shippers, and freight partners to help our customers stay informed, plan ahead, and keep quality product moving across Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and East Texas.

๐Ÿ“ž Contact your Robertson Produce sales representative for current pricing, availability, and substitution options.
