Welcome to the launch of the Pure Monroe campaign to promote our community's assets. This effort is a partnership between Pure Michigan and a team of businesses from Monroe County to highlight all that our area has to offer from the new River Raisin National Battlefield Park to the Heritage Trail System. The Pure Monroe campaign is funded by the generous donations of local businesses and community leaders. The goal of the campaign is to showcase Monroe County both to individuals and businesses.

In today's Monroe Evening News is a special Visions section that takes a close look at the City of Monroe's new Heritage Corridor proposal, which drastically would alter the landscape of neighborhoods surrounding the River Raisin National Battlefield Park; Resilient Monroe, a cooperative effort by Monroe and Frenchtown townships and the City of Monroe, to grow in complementary directions, and the impact of tourism and how Monroe County can evolve into a major destination.
Along with this special section are several feature stories about Dundee's growth since Cabela's arrival and the update of its master plan to spur more development. Also featured is a story on Luna Pier's plans to focus on tourism as a way to face its future without Consumers Energy’s J.R. Whiting Power Plant, a major taxpayer that is expected to shut down.

Researchers: Mich. tourism spending rose in 2012 TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — Business grew for Michigan's tourism industry for a third consecutive year in 2012, with help from the weather, good publicity and the "Pure Michigan" advertising campaign aimed at luring visitors from other states, researchers said Monday.
