Race season coming soon......
04/03/2022
The start of this race season has been a tough one. After finding out our race engine block's head bolt holes were messed up we had to go to a back up block. Was a hard week getting the motor out of the parts car and get swapped into the race car. Got to the track Saturday and took it easy first practice to break in new head gasket. Ran good in second practice til a weld broke on L/F tie rod sending Gav into a yuke tire, just cosmetic damage. Got tie rod welded back together, thanks Lane! Gav qualified 10th out of 13 cars. He started 5th in heat race and ran his personal best lap on lap 7 of 8 just as the car came in. So we were excited for the main event hoping to improve a little more. Gav had an awesome start on the first green flag but had to do another restart and he was all over it again starting in 9th and was on a charge but the block couldn't take anymore and blew up going into turn 3. Gav rolled into the infield and our night was over. Very proud of the improvement I've seen in his driving already this year. Not sure when we will make it back out, possibly looking to go Fuel injected.....
Looking for any leads on a good Honda motor.

Well we were having a good practice, car was running good and handling well and so after first practice while looking everything over, noticed a bit of water spray inside engine compartment. Radiator was low and overflow bottle was full so thought radiator cap went bad. Changed cap, filled her up and then noticed a hose had a leak so got that fixed also. Went out for next practice, car didn't seem to have the power it did in first run. Brought it in and car died before getting back to pit area. Then had water out exhaust...... Looks like possible head gasket... starting engine tear down today, would like the head valves and springs looked at, hopefully can get her fixed before first race!!

Tomorrow we are going to give it another go and Hope that the car is finally tuned correctly. We've thrown everything at this little engine to get her to roar so we'll see. Dad will be filling in Driving duties for Gavin as he had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled this week!! He's doing great. Made some autograph cards for Gav to sign and hand out but not sure if they are doing a fan fest now. Wish us luck!

Gav ran his mini over the weekend thought we had the fuel issues worked out. Ran good in first practice. Made a small set up adjustment for second practice, car ran really well and Gav was able to get into the low 20 sec laps. Was hoping car would still be good the rest of the night to be able to start seeing what him and the little engine could do but he got a bit loose on lap 1 of the Heat race and spun out. Car got a bit flooded with the spin and was sputtering and popping the rest of the Heat race. We checked the plugs and all were good except one, #4 was a little black. Dried up the fuel and cleaned the plug up and thought he would be good to go for the main event. But nope, right from the get go car was still popping as he was on the throttle and then after bout 20 laps or so coming out of turn 4 the throttle cable snapped so he coasted off the track and that was the end of his night. So we'll get a new throttle linkage and cable and see what else we can throw at this running issue with the engine and hopefully be back out on the 26th.

At the end of last season I purchased a mini-stock for Gavin. We started on the tear down/rebuild in January. Pretty much got it all together with parts I had or friends gave to us or we just made our own. Gavin did most of the sanding at home and then since he is going thru the Sno-Isle auto body class, the awesome instructor Shawn Fitzpatrick let us bring the car there so students could finish and paint it with the paint we supplied. Still working out all the bugs, fuel issues-not running great, but we were able to make it thru a full race day over the weekend. Gav drove really well for his first 30 lap race with 19 cars all around him.

2020 Race Season : We have decided that we are going to take a break from racing this year. We have raced for the last 11 years straight and it came as a family decision to take this year off. Everyone is healthy and doing well. Gav is in his sophomore year and doing well in school. Hayley is in the last leg of her Senior year and in full concentration in her school work to get her Diploma.
Hayley was offered to drive a championship car this year, but we didn't feel that we could be fully committed for her to drive for this team this year and did not want to get in the way of another family friend being able to drive for this team. But we may look back into this offer for the 2021 race season.
Gavin and Hayley will be available if anyone needs a fill in driver for a weekend if a conflict comes up for someone and they need a driver.
We will be around this year in the pits and in sometimes in the stands, if anyone needs any help don't hesitate to ask, we love being around our Racing Family. We hope everyone has a great 2020 Race Season!
See you at the track!!

In the last couple weeks I was able to fix some motor problems Gavs car had been having. And today he practiced really well and improved his qualifying time by 1.5 sec. He started 6th in the B main. By the end of the first lap he had moved all the way up to 2nd. Held that for quite a few laps. Car started to get a bit loose towards the end, dropped back to 4th and on the last lap he slid high in turns 3&4 and couldn't get it straightened out and ended up clipping a teammate. Gav felt extremely upset for hitting her, but she's ok and we'll help her get her car fixed for the next race. So he ended up finishing 6th but the top 4 cars transferred to the A main, so Gav took home 2nd place!!!

This weekend Hayley will be doing a Double Header. Saturday she'll be racing with the Northwest Mini-Stock Tour cars and Sunday will be with the regular Mini-Stock class. Both races are 50 laps. Come on out and wish her luck!!!
Things didn't go quite as planned yesterday. We talked Thursday evening and set some goals we wanted to work on this weekend. And Hayley and Gavin set them in motion pretty well in each of their first practices. Gavs car was handling pretty well for him. And Hayley s car was hooking up good and she was 5th fastest in practice.
Then when Hayley was going up to qualify we could hear there was something off with her motor. It started to idle high and we thought maybe the throttle was sticking. Made a quick adjustment. She went out and qualified 8th out of 20 cars, on old tires she ran last year.
When she came in, with the help of we started trying to figure out what was wrong with her motor. Finally figured out the head had blown an injector port so it wasn't firing correctly. We didn't quite have the proper tools at the track to fix it, and rather than take a chance with a "track" fix, and possibly cause more problems, Dad had to make the call to call it a night for #01 deyounginc, black bag motors, Mini-Stock.
Pretty proud of Hayley's accomplishments this weekend. She has a highly competitive car and with her driving skills improving each time out.
Gav drove really well and smart in his heat race. He chose to start in the back if the B main. He drove hard and avoided a few crashes and improved very well for being only 14yrs old driving a new car, which needs a few adjustments for him, in an adult field of 22 cars. He brought it home with an 8th place finish and had a great time.
On to the next one.....
April 20 the is our next race
