🐾💙 Happy National Dog Dad Day! 💙🐾
Today we're celebrating a very special group of humans...
The brave men who willingly share their recliners, surrender their personal space, and somehow end up sleeping on six inches of mattress while a 70-pound Weimaraner stretches out like royalty. 😂
Being a Weimaraner Dog Dad isn't for the faint of heart.
It means:
☕ Never drinking your morning coffee alone.
🚿 Having a bathroom es**rt every single day.
🛋️ Repeatedly saying, "The dog is NOT allowed on the couch" while the dog occupies 90% of the couch.
🥪 Developing ninja-level skills to keep sandwiches, bread, and snacks out of reach of a very determined counter-surfer.
🎤 Holding daily negotiations with a dog that communicates through sighs, grumbles, whines, yodels, and dramatic facial expressions.
And somehow, despite the constant supervision, the lack of privacy, and the never-ending energy, Weimaraner dads wouldn't have it any other way.
The bond between a Weimaraner and their person is something truly special. These loyal "Velcro Dogs" have a way of attaching themselves directly to your heart—and usually your leg, too. ❤️
At Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue, we're grateful for all the amazing dog dads who open their homes, hearts, and couches to rescued Weimaraners. Whether you've adopted, fostered, volunteered, or simply loved a Gray Ghost through all their antics, today we celebrate YOU.
📸 We want to see your favorite Dog Dad and Weimaraner photos!

Bonus points for stories involving stolen sandwiches, couch takeovers, or dramatic Weimaraner negotiations. 😆
Happy National Dog Dad Day to all the incredible Weim dads out there! 💙🐾

Alumni Update: Aurora ❤️
Some of you may remember Aurora, who found her forever family in 2023. And yes, before anyone says it, we know she’s not exactly a textbook Weimaraner. 😂 Her brother was silver, but once her family met this sweet chocolate-colored girl, there was absolutely no way they were leaving her behind!
Today, Aurora is living her very best life and has blossomed into an incredible dog. Her mom says she is “the sweetest girl who is loved by everyone she meets,” and looking at these photos, it’s easy to see why.
Aurora has grown into a confident, adventurous young lady who is always ready to try something new. Whether she’s exploring new places, meeting new people, making dog friends, or showing off one of the many tricks she’s learned, she approaches life with enthusiasm and joy. She’s athletic, lightning fast, can jump surprisingly high, and has enough personality to keep everyone around her entertained.
When she’s not out being an adventurer, Aurora enjoys the finer things in life. She loves relaxing in the music room while musicians sing and play piano, soaking up every note like the sophisticated lady she is. She also enjoys stretching out in the sunshine after a good game of catch with her dad, one of her favorite activities in the world.
But what shines brightest about Aurora isn’t her speed, intelligence, or athletic ability. It’s her loving heart. She adores people, especially when she can be the center of attention, and she has a way of making everyone she meets fall in love with her.
Her family summed it up perfectly:
“Aurora is brave, independent, smart, friendly, athletic, beautiful, and loving. She is adventurous and amazing, and adopting Aurora is the best thing we’ve ever done.”
Stories like Aurora’s are why rescue matters. Sometimes the dog you weren’t expecting becomes the dog you can’t imagine living without.
Thank you to Aurora’s wonderful family for opening your hearts, giving her every opportunity to thrive, and sharing these beautiful updates with us. We love seeing our alumni living the lives they were always meant to have. ❤️🐾

🐾 Finn Update: Sea Legs, Toad Patrol & New Best Friends 🐾
We have another fantastic update from Finn’s amazing foster dad, Darrick, and every day this handsome boy lets us see a little more of who he really is.
Finn has officially settled into the pack and is fitting in beautifully. His personality is emerging more and more each day, and it turns out our laid-back blue boy has formed an unlikely friendship.
Finn is especially fond of Tiki, the resident Jack Russell Terrorist. 😂
It’s quite the pairing. Tiki is a tiny whirlwind of energy while Finn prefers a more relaxed approach to life. Tiki regularly pesters Finn into games of tug-of-war, and when playtime is over, Finn graciously allows her to clean his ears. If that isn’t friendship, we don’t know what is. The cutest moment of all came when Darrick discovered that instead of sleeping in the big bed with the humans, Tiki had chosen to curl up beside Finn in his bed on the floor. Apparently everyone loves Finn.
Finn continues to do wonderfully off leash and has really started responding to his name. When he first arrived, he acted as though he’d never heard the word “Finn” in his life. Now he’s checking in, staying with the group, and showing excellent awareness of where his people are. Leash walking still needs some polishing, especially when distractions appear, but he’s making steady progress every day.
This weekend Finn experienced a brand-new adventure: a trip to the lake!
While the other dogs enthusiastically splashed, paddled, and retrieved, Finn made it very clear that water is not currently on his list of favorite activities. Getting him onto the boat required a little convincing, and once aboard he immediately decided laying down was the safest course of action.
Eventually curiosity won out. Finn began exploring the boat, taking in the sights, and discovering that riding across the lake with the wind blowing through those giant Weimaraner ears is actually pretty enjoyable. By the end of the trip he was hopping on and off the boat like a seasoned sailor. We are happy to report that Captain Finn has officially found his sea legs. 🚤
Back at home, Finn has also discovered another hobby.
Toad collecting.
Every evening has become a game of “How many toads can Finn find before the humans intervene?” According to Darrick, it’s basically canine Whack-a-Mole. The moment one toad is rescued from Finn’s mouth, he’s already searching for the next one. Thankfully the toads seem to be surviving the experience, although they’re probably filing complaints with wildlife management.
When he’s tired, Finn simply tucks himself into his crate for a nap. And make no mistake, this boy is a professional napper. He has fully embraced the art of relaxation.
He’s also developed an interest in coffee. Specifically, other people’s coffee. Morning coffee cups now require supervision because Finn believes he should be included in the ritual. Don’t worry, the cup in the photo was empty, but apparently Finn remains hopeful that one day his coffee dreams will come true. ☕😂
Every update makes us love this goofy boy a little more. Thank you, Darrick, for continuing to give Finn the time, patience, adventures, and love he needs while we learn more about him.
We can’t wait to see what adventure Finn discovers next. ❤️🐾

🥪🐾 Happy National Take Back the Lunch Break Day! 🐾🥪
Hello. It's me. Your Weimaraner.
I have recently been informed that today is National Take Back the Lunch Break Day—a day when humans are encouraged to step away from their desks, get some fresh air, and enjoy a peaceful lunch.
A peaceful lunch?
Interesting concept.
As your loyal Velcro Dog, I feel it's important to remind you that no lunch break should ever be taken alone. If you go outside, I go outside. If you sit down with a sandwich, I sit directly on your feet. If you open a bag of chips, I suddenly appear from nowhere like the Gray Ghost I was born to be. 👻
You may think you're taking a lunch break.
I prefer to think of it as a supervised snack-sharing session.
And let's not forget my highly advanced human-like intelligence. While you're answering emails, I've already:
✅ Calculated the shortest route to the refrigerator.
✅ Determined which lunch container contains chicken.
✅ Positioned myself for maximum guilt-inducing eye contact.
Some humans call it manipulation.
I call it teamwork.
At Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue, we know that life is better when a Weimaraner is attached to your shadow, supervising every sandwich, every walk, and every lunch break. That's what makes these incredible dogs so special—and why we're dedicated to helping rescued Weimaraners find loving homes where they can perfect their lunch-monitoring skills.
📸 We want to see your lunch-break supervisors!
Share a photo of your Weimaraner (or any rescue pup) helping you enjoy your midday break. Do they stare at your sandwich? Follow you outside? Attempt quality-control inspections of every snack?
Drop your photos and stories in the comments! ⬇️🐾
Because let's be honest...
No one takes back a lunch break quite like a Weimaraner.

🩶 Moose Alumni Update 🩶
Some updates just make your heart smile, and this is definitely one of them.
Remember Moose? The big guy who came into rescue carrying far too much weight and not nearly enough confidence? Well, just look at him now!
According to Kerri and Robin, Moose has his boyish figure back. He may not quite be sporting a six-pack yet thanks to a little extra loose skin left behind from his weight-loss journey, but that’s a badge of honor if you ask us. 😂
These days, Moose is living the life every Weimaraner dreams about. He spends his days running around the farm, exploring the world, and attending doggy daycare twice a week to socialize with his friends. And friends he has! According to the daycare staff, Moose is one of the most well-liked dogs there. His list of besties includes a Great Dane and a Labrador, proving once again that Moose has never met a stranger he couldn’t charm.
The best part of all isn’t the weight loss, the farm adventures, or even his popularity at daycare. It’s hearing Kerri and Robin say that Moose is the joy of their lives and that it feels like he has always been part of their family.
That is what rescue is all about.
Thank you, Kerri and Robin, for loving this sweet boy and giving him the life he deserves. And thank you to Zoe and Ellen for helping Moose get healthy, teaching him manners, building his confidence, and preparing him for the day his perfect family came along.
Happy tails look pretty good on you, Moose. We couldn’t be happier for you, big guy. 💙🐾
“He is the joy of our life and feels like he has always been with us.”
Now that’s the kind of rescue ending we all hope for. 🩶

🩶 Chief Update! 🩶
It has only been a few days since Chief traded shelter life for a foster-to-adopt home, but if you ask us, this boy is settling in exactly the way we hoped he would.
Leslie sent us an update after Chief’s very first day home alone while she and Jeremy were at work, and we’re thrilled to report that it was a complete success.
“Good evening! Today was a success! They both did great! Josie kept checking on him… lol. They ran hard when we came home. Now they are tired pups!”
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Josie checking on her new foster brother throughout the day? 🥹
The photos tell the story better than we ever could. Whether they’re stretched out together on the rug after a long day of playing or enjoying the backyard side-by-side, Chief and Josie are quickly becoming quite the duo.
But wait, there’s more…
Leslie reached out again with another update that absolutely melted our hearts.
“Good evening! I wanted to let you know that today was another great day. He is starting to loosen up and show glimpses of his cute personality. My husband said he is ours 🥰 we do want to adopt him when we can.”
And just like that, Chief may have worked his magic.
Honestly, we’re not surprised. This 2-year-old silver Weimaraner has spent every step of his rescue journey charming everyone he meets. From being a shelter favorite, to winning over his foster family, to making himself right at home with Josie, Chief has shown us exactly who he is: a happy, loving, goofy boy who just wants to be part of a family.
His ear infection is already improving, he’s settling into a routine, he’s making friends, and most importantly, he’s starting to let his true personality shine through.
Sometimes dogs come into rescue needing months of work. Sometimes they come in simply needing a chance.
Chief just needed someone to say yes.
We have a feeling this handsome boy’s search for a forever home may be coming to an end very soon. 🩶🐾

🧺🐾 Happy International Picnic Day! 🐾🧺
If you've ever tried to enjoy a peaceful picnic with a Weimaraner, you already know one thing:
They don't sit next to the picnic blanket...
They become the picnic blanket. 😆
Weimaraners earned the nickname "Velcro Dogs" for a reason. Wherever you go, they go. Whether it's a walk, a road trip, or a sunny picnic in the park, your Gray Ghost is determined to be part of every moment.
Fun fact: The word "picnic" comes from the French term pique-nique, which originally described a gathering where everyone contributed a dish. We imagine a Weimaraner would happily contribute by providing:
🐾 Constant supervision
🐿️ Squirrel patrol services
🪰 Professional fly-snapping entertainment
🥪 Quality control inspections of every sandwich
And let's be honest... no picnic is complete until your Weim has thoroughly checked the perimeter for rogue squirrels and suspicious crumbs. 😂
At Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue, we love seeing rescued Weims enjoying life's simple pleasures with the families who love them. Every adopted dog deserves a cozy blanket, a sunny day, and a forever family to share adventures with.
📸 We'd love to see your picnic-loving pups!
👇 Tell us in the comments:
Does your Weim politely sit beside the picnic blanket...
or do they insist on sitting directly ON you?
Share your favorite outdoor, picnic, camping, or park photos of your Gray Ghost below!
❤️ Every picture reminds us why we work so hard to help Weimaraners find the loving homes they deserve.

💙 Alumni Update: Schon 💙
Remember sweet Schon? The girl who fought through medical challenges, learned to trust again, and patiently waited for the perfect family?
Well, we received an update from her adopters, and it may be the most Weimaraner update ever:
“This is a dog sofa now.” 😂
And honestly, looking at this picture, we’re not sure there’s any room for debate.
Schon has fully embraced her new life. She has claimed the couch, perfected the upside-down sleeping position, and appears to have convinced everyone in the house that furniture was created specifically for dogs. Her canine sibling has accepted the new arrangement, and the humans seem to understand that they are now merely caretakers of the dog sofa.
Seeing her stretched out, relaxed, and completely carefree makes our hearts so happy. This is the same girl who came into rescue carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Now she’s sleeping belly-up, paws in the air, without a single worry.
This is what rescue is all about. Not just finding a home, but finding a place where a dog feels so safe, so loved, and so completely at peace that they can sleep like this.
Thank you to her wonderful family for giving Schon exactly what she deserved.
Sleep tight, sweet girl. The dog sofa looks perfect on you. 🩶🐾👑💤💕

Fibi Update 💙
We received another update from Travis and Chelsea, and while Fibi is fully recovered from surgery and has been released from veterinary care, we’re continuing to learn more about her separation anxiety and what she needs to be successful.
Over the past several days, her foster parents have been carefully testing different scenarios while monitoring her on camera. One trial involved feeding her breakfast in her crate on a snuffle mat and leaving once she started eating. Unfortunately, once the food was gone, Fibi spent the next hour and ten minutes pacing nonstop between the front windows and the back door. The encouraging news is that there was very little drooling and no heavy panting, but she remained on high alert the entire time. When Travis and Chelsea returned home, she finally relaxed and laid down a few minutes later.
A second trial came when Chelsea had an appointment. Fibi had received her morning medications, was napping peacefully before they left, and remained loose in the house while they were gone. During the hour and twenty-five minutes they were away, the camera showed the same pattern of constant pacing. This time she also began scratching at the garage door, making it clear that she was still struggling with being left alone.
Based on what they’re seeing, Travis and Chelsea have decided to go back to the basics. Rather than continuing with longer absences, they’ll begin rebuilding her confidence with very short departures of one, three, and five minutes before gradually increasing duration. They’re also considering setting up a heavy-duty crate in a spare upstairs bedroom with blackout curtains to create a calm, quiet space dedicated to separation training.
The good news is that Fibi absolutely loves her sleeping crate and uses it willingly, so the crate itself isn’t the issue. The challenge is helping her understand that when her people leave, they always come back.
As if separation anxiety wasn’t enough to keep everyone busy, Fibi also appears to have developed a yeast ear infection. Travis and Chelsea noticed persistent debris in her ears and that she had become sensitive when her ears were touched. A telemedicine consultation confirmed that her symptoms are consistent with a yeast infection, and treatment is already underway with prescription medication and a recommended ear wash.
The biggest takeaway from this update is that Fibi is healthy, happy, energetic, and back to being a normal young Weimaraner. Now the focus shifts from physical recovery to helping her build confidence and independence. Fortunately, she has two incredibly dedicated foster parents who are committed to helping her work through every step of the process.
Please continue cheering this sweet girl on. Every day she learns something new, and every day she gets a little closer to becoming the confident dog we know she can be. 💙
