Goose and I had a farewell party yesterday for Sweet T (Itrek Acres Sweet Talker). He was on lease as a backup for breeding season on his way to Twin Willows Farm. I picked him and Goose (his wingman) up at a few weeks old and he's been a central character at the farm since. I'm gonna miss him, but he's finally headed to his real home. I hope he makes lots of nice babies!

Someone reposted this Oak Apple Farm cartoon today (lost in the void of my Facebook feed). I had to verify this evening.
The youngest 2-week old making dad proud. I just got her on bottles and lambar and she’s already eating alfalfa.

There was a lot to get done this weekend, but like every other weekend the list never quite gets finished. Instead of mucking the barn or trimming hooves, we had some quality time.

Amber Waves and Victory Belle bonding during chores.
She probably couldn’t have planned it better. While Amber shared a barn with 3 of my animals as a baby, she has had a hard time fitting into the herd.
Because she was late, kidded on a work night (I didn’t want to bottle through the night), and she’s the last to kid for several weeks, there’s room in the kidding stall to have some quality bonding time with her daughter. Even better, because she had a single doe and is my only daughter of Michael (and she’s lovely too!) she will be staying with her momma in the herd.

Day 151 with a 46 lb first freshener. I was expecting some excitement and she didn’t disappoint.
The good news is everyone is healthy and doing fine. Cade’s Lil Farm CA Amber Waves gave birth to a single 4 lb doe sired by IlenesRascals Michael Darling.
This was my first breach birth. The back legs came out to the hocks and she got stuck. Even with a little bit of pressure, she wasn’t budging. I called the vet and loaded her into my truck with a couple legs hanging out of her. Fortunately I grabbed the l**e, towels, and birthing kit. My friend Jeff was there to drive while I worked on Amber in the backseat with the vet on the line. She asked if I had l**e. “I’ve got a gallon of l**e”. I l**ed that baby up and she slipped right out into the backseat of my truck.
I’ll be retaining her. After 4 kiddings the score is now 8🩷-0💙.

This morning Cade's Lil Farm AL Tinkles continued the streak. We wrote down 2-3 from her ultrasound, but she gave us a single 3.5 lb doe! She looks just as surprised as me! I'll likely be retaining her out of my favorite doe. I was kinda hoping for a buck too, but I'll take it!
Scorecard after 3 kiddings: 7🩷-0💙
