She’s the best!

Moo Law La Say was 8 years old when she started at Willard Elementary School, unable to speak a word of English.

Her teachers gave her simple picture cards so she could ask for water or the restroom. World Relief staff had greeted her family at the airport when they arrived as refugees from a camp in Thailand. A caseworker named Rachael helped them learn how to use light switches and faucets in their first American apartment.

Today, Moo is that caseworker's colleague.

She interned with World Relief Quad Cities, then joined the team full time, helping immigrant families access the resources her own family once needed. She's now pursuing graduate studies in international education, with a dream of expanding opportunities for refugee children like she once was.

This back-to-school season, Moo's story is a reminder of what education can make possible.

Thank you to Dave Hodge, Community Engagement and Church Mobilizer at World Relief, for leading our Good Neighbor Team Brunch this morning!

Good Neighbor Teams are families who have opened their arms to newly arrived families and taken on the responsibility of helping them navigate and build a life in their new community.

During the brunch, Hannah Langworthy, our IFRP Public Benefits Specialist, and Kelly Wendt, our Career Pathways Coordinator, led an informational training covering the evolving pathways to citizenship and access to health insurance for refugees and immigrants.

Dave does so much for World Relief and maintains a widespread network of church relationships. We are continually inspired by his faith, courage, and commitment to serving others.

We are grateful for all of our Good Neighbor Teams and the many ways they welcome, support, and walk alongside the families we serve.

Today, our Director, Jen Osing, had the opportunity to serve as a featured speaker for OneTable QC, hosted at the IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union headquarters.

The event featured a candid and thoughtful conversation about immigration and refugee issues impacting the Quad Cities, with a focus on what nonprofit and community leaders should understand about the changing landscape in our region.

We’re grateful to OneTable QC for bringing community leaders together for this important dialogue and to the other featured speakers, Ann McGlynn of Tapestry Farms and Amanda Woodruff of Black Hawk College, for sharing their insights and perspectives.

Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation and continues to work toward a stronger, more empathetic, and informed community.

Today, we had the opportunity to give a brief presentation at St. Ambrose University for Dr. Duk Kim’s Global Impacts of Immigration class.

We use opportunities like these to combine community outreach, advocacy, and personal testimony—creating space for meaningful conversations and helping students better understand the experiences and perspectives that shape our communities.

Thank you to Palomares for including us in a great event last night at Radicle Effect Brewerks to raise funds for families affected by the Tyson closure.

A special shoutout to Palomares, Quad Cities Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees, and Tapestry Farms for your continued efforts to support our community during this difficult time.

Thank you to Mary McNeil and Project NOW, Inc. for organizing the Latine Homeless Report Release event, hosted by Mercado On Fifth.

The event featured presentations from Christine Haley, Chief of the Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, and Iván Arenas, Senior Associate Director at the UIC Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy.

They shared new research on homelessness within the Latine community across the State of Illinois.

The event also included a panel discussion featuring the following community leaders:

We were grateful to be part of this welcoming community gathering, sharing a free meal and produce pop-up with neighbors and friends.
