Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky)’s book on the mystery of confession has been the standard text for ROCOR priests and seminarians over the last hundred years. ROCOR’s future founding First Hierarch composed this work largely from memory during a period of forced imprisonment in a Uniate monastery from 1918-1920, and we published the first English-language translation in 1975. Due to the limited availability of source materials during his imprisonment, Vladyka Anthony was unable to cite the full breadth of Patristic literature he usually used in his course work. This new edition now has the citations that he lamented he wasn’t able to include in the original. Additionally, the appendices have been greatly expanded to include the full order of confession from the Book of Needs, quotes from the Holy Fathers on the stages of temptation, supplemental writings by Saints Innocent of Alaska and Dimitry of Rostov, as well as a series of questions based on the Ten Commandments to aid in preparing for confession.

This new edition has also been incorporated into Holy Trinity Seminary Press’s Practical Handbook series, along with "A Practical Handbook for Divine Services" and "A Practical Handbook for Priestly Ministry".

This past week, we celebrated the memory of our heavenly protector, St Job of Pochaev. ☦

St Job was one of the first Orthodox saints to use the printing press to spread Orthodox faith. He struggled mightily against many worldly forces that sought to eradicate Orthodoxy in the land of Volhynia. To this end, the Printshop of the Pochaev Monastery produced prayer books, lives of the saints, service books, catechisms and many other works in tens, or even hundreds of thousands of copies for distribution both among the faithful and the "lost sheep of the House of Israel".

Many of the monks who fled the Pochaev Monastery during that time eventually found save haven at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, New York. Among many other things, they brought the publishing tradition with them. Holy Trinity Publications continues St Job's missionary efforts through the printed word.
