I’ll also be out on the road the entire month of October so if anyone on the east side of the country has been wanting to hear me play, or would like for me to host an evening of music let me know and we might can make something happen. I’m honored and grateful, let’s get it y’all😎.
Angel- Jimi Hendrix
Yes, we still listen to Jimi Hendrix in the South.
My first impressions of this song were on New Years Eve this year, in some sort of beach shack in Pensacola that I honestly don’t remember the name of, multiple hours after the fireworks had gone off and the venue we celebrated at had shut down. While speaking with the band briefly after their set, everyone drunkenly made their way to watch Tyler Mac with his red hollow body guitar, either take us to space or take himself to space(I’m not sure which happened first, but both happened at some point). For the first couple of songs it was that sort of guitar music that feels more like a demonstration of vocabulary than it did a song, but then he cut into Angel by Jimi Hendrix. I had never heard it before so I had to ask a friend. Now THIS was a song. It felt like every chord was its own key change, every note was the next stop at a new solar system and we were traveling at light speed. It was genuine sentiment and stream-of-consciousness and psychedelic and pure. The lyrics are Cormac McCarthy fever dream-esque, heavily anchored in the shared subconscious imagery of our evolutionarily inherited bits of the brain. I can’t remember the last time a song made an impression on me as deeply, and it’s taken me 5 months to try and quantify it. Check out my little acoustic cover and then go listen to the original and tell me what you think!

I’ve always really liked country songs with a 3 feel. Here’s me playing around with one of the best ones. Cody Johnson’s Nothing on You.
