This week, MFRD firefighters took on the challenge of completing the Alabama Fire College’s Fire Apparatus Operator course, held at the MFRDTC.

Fire Appratus Operator is designed for the firefighter who wishes to advance to the next level of his/her career and gain the base knowledge and skills to become a Driver/Operator/Engineer.

The course consists of six modules that include preventative maintenance, tests and inspections, driving/operating, water supply, sprinklers and standpipes, and operations.

The MFRD is excited to welcome Firefighter Recruit Class 23-02!

After a week of orientation and onboarding, the 35 recruits begin their 6-month fire and EMT training journey. This week, twenty-six (26) recruits started Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) school with our partners at the The University of South Alabama, while the remaining receuits continue their MFRD orientation.

We look forward to seeing these 35 new members of the MFRD become competent and confident firefighters.

Congratulations to Firefighter Recruit Classes 22-03 and 23-01! Both recruit classes have officially completed the basic requirements to become State of Alabama Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians.

These committed individuals put their lives on hold and dedicated themselves to 24 weeks of rigorous fire and EMT training through MFRD's Training Division and the University of South Alabama. To celebrate their accomplishment, the MFRD held a graduation ceremony today, marking the official completion of training.

Though one journey has ended, another begins for these eager, energetic rookies. We are overjoyed for our newest firefighters and look forward to long, prosperous careers.

Welcome to the family, 22-03 and 23-01.

“We treat the body rigorously so that it will not be disobedient to the mind.”

In the fire service, we must continuously train and become experts at our craft so that we are prepared for any potential situation that may arise. In fire and EMS, the difference between being competent and ready versus unprepared is the line between life and death.

NEW RECRUITS:
The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department welcomes its newest group of fire academy recruits with Fire Recruit Classes 22-03 and 23-01. The forty-one (41) Mobile candidates make history as the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department's single-largest group of new-hires. Recruit Classes 22-03 and 23-01 also include firefighter recruits from Saraland Fire-Rescue Department.

Firefighter recruits will embark on an approximately 6-month training program, including basic medical and fire scene operations and tactics, in hopes of becoming Mobile's next firefighters. The large candidate group is divided into 2 recruit classes (-03 and -01), allowing for firefighter and emergency medical training to happen concurrently.

The climb to the top is gut-wrenching, and it will test your mettle. Though, the reward is found in doing the work.

Their time in Recruit School was just the beginning. We look forward to long, rewarding careers for every member of Class 22-01 and Claas 22-02.

It has been a long road for Recruit Classes 22-01 and 22-02, and though we are in the home stretch and nearing the end, training still continues. Although the light may be at the end of the tunnel for these firefighter recruits, there can never be a finish line for a first responder - always learning, always training, always adapting, always improving.

Class 22-01 and Class 22-02 prepare to graduate on Friday, August 26th and hit the streets as the City of Mobile’s newest Firefighters!

LEAD FROM THE FRONT:
Firefighter Recruit Class 22-02 is deeply engaged in fire school. This week, they train on search and rescue operations with special guest instructor Fire Chief Jeremy Lami.

Chief Lami, a former Training Academy Instructor, led 22-02 in special search drills, emphasizing the importance of remaining oriented, working as a team, and moving quickly to save lives.

Class 22-02 continues their training to become Mobile’s next certified firefighters.
