Throwing it back to 2001! United Way Board Chairman Gerald Friedlander introduced that year’s Campaign Chairman, Cheryl Thompson, at the campaign kickoff on the campus of the University of South Alabama.

Thompson, then a senior vice president with Alabama Power Company., announced the campaign theme: “Got Heart? Give Smart.”

At its heart, the message was about people caring for people. Funds raised through the campaign supported 54 United Way agencies serving Clarke, Mobile and Washington counties, helping local organizations be there for people who needed them.

More than 25 years later, the heart behind that mission remains a part of who we are.

🌊 APSO Volunteers Making a Difference! 🌊

APSO volunteers rolled up their sleeves and participated in the 39th Annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup! Together, they collected litter and helped protect the beauty of Alabama’s coast.

Last week, APSO volunteers proudly delivered classroom supplies to Chickasaw Elementary School and Chickasaw Middle/High School. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support our local teachers and students as they continue learning and growing! 📚✏️🍎

Helping students prepare for life beyond the classroom! 💰🎓

APSO volunteers participated in Chickasaw High School’s “Your Money, Your Life” event! We guided students through interactive activities, shared real-world financial advice, and helped with budgeting simulations to show how everyday money decisions add up.

We’re proud to help students build confidence in managing their financial futures!

APSO volunteers dropped off daily essentials for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help ease everyday needs so families can focus on what matters most.

The Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) is excited to kick off the new school year by giving back to the students at J.U. Blacksher School. Through our Back-to-School Drive, we provided clear backpacks and school supplies to help students start the year with the tools they need for success.

At APSO, we believe that investing in our children is an investment in the future of our community. We hope these backpacks and supplies not only ease the financial burden for families but also remind every student that they are supported, encouraged, and valued.

Serving our communities is at the heart of what we do, and opportunities like this allow us to make a meaningful difference beyond the workplace. We are grateful for the chance to partner with J.U. Blacksher School and help students begin the school year with confidence and excitement.
