Awesome news at UMS-Wright!!

UMS-Wright is thrilled to announce the hiring of Darnell Archey as its next Women’s Basketball Coach. Coach Archey brings 21 years of experience coaching both high school and collegiate basketball, most recently at the University of Mobile. While at UM, Coach Archey guided the Rams to the national tournament in 2025 and consecutive 20-win seasons in 2024 & 2025. Prior to working at University of Mobile, Darnell was an assistant coach in multiple D-1 programs including Butler University and the University of South Alabama. While at Butler, Darnell coached in two NCAA national championship games and Final Fours.

As a collegiate player at Butler University, Darnell set numerous school, Horizon League and NCAA records. During his career, Coach Archey led Butler to 4 conference championships and 3 NCAA tournament appearances. In 2003, the Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and Darnell was selected to the East Regional All-Tournament team. Darnell ranks 2nd among Butler’s all-time 3-point shooters and remains the NCAA’s record holder for consecutive free throws made at 85. He holds degrees from both Butler University and Indiana Wesleyan.

Darnell is married to Amanda Archey, a faculty member in UMS-Wright’s lower school division. His two daughters, Allie (’26) and Ava (’29), are both UMS-Wright students.

Honored to receive the ABBY Award of Merit for Television Podcast!

Southeast Sports Plus began as a simple idea—to cover the conference we know and love alongside great friends and colleagues—and it’s incredible to see how far it’s come!

This wouldn’t be possible without Simone Eli and the continued support from our WKRG leadership: General Manager Jesse Grear and News Director Gene Kirkconnell. Huge credit to Patrick Walsh, the driving force, who consistently brings great ideas to life!

Thank you to the Alabama Broadcasters Association for the recognition, and a big shoutout to our WKRG teammates WKRG Taylor Boysen and Jason Garcia on your well-deserved honor! Truly thankful for the team and the journey!
