A night in Tokyo I’ll never forget! 🥢
My biggest design project to date and the first hospitality project for JBG Design Studio AND hopefully not the last.
This project truly reflects how much I’ve grown as a designer over the past three years. It pushed me creatively and allowed me to explore layering textures, finishes, and custom elements in a way that feels both edgy and elevated while still staying true to my design style.
From countless late nights coordinating with vendors, to carefully selecting focal pieces and watching every detail come together virtually, the process has been nothing short of surreal. There’s something indescribable about seeing a concept that once lived only in your mind fully come to life.
I hope you all enjoy everything that Sakéroom is and what it represents. I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of this journey! 🍣
The Sakéroom Final Reveal 🍣🥢
My goal with the lounge design for Sakéroom was to create more than just a “vibe.” I wanted to design an environment that feels street-chic yet elevated, an aesthetic that can be appreciated from every angle.
With every project, it’s imperative to both my client and me that the space includes features that are uniquely theirs, details that can’t be found anywhere else. From the intentional seating inspired by traditional Japanese horigotatsu dining, paired with spherical upholstery, to the custom lighting commissioned through my Turkish vendor, every element within Sakéroom was thoughtfully curated. Nothing was placed without purpose.
My intention was never to create something gimmicky, but rather to design a space that respectfully nods to Japanese culture while delivering an immersive and authentic experience. I truly hope it’s received that way.

🥢🍸TOKYO-INSPIRED LOUNGE TO OPEN IN FIVE POINTS SOUTH: A new “chic lounge” is opening in the long-vacant Shepherd-Sloss Building located in Five Points South! Get the details👇
🪩 is a modern, Tokyo-inspired destination where dining meets nightlife.
💬“Sakéroom is Birmingham’s only late-night sushi lounge…Guests can enjoy elevated sushi, handcrafted cocktails + one of the city’s best happy hours, all set to have live music + DJs on the weekends…”

🏮 + shared an Instagram post showing interior design inspired by Tokyo street art, with the walls covered in neon art + paper lanterns along the ceiling.
🗝️ Completed in 1928, the Shepherd-Sloss Building has been largely unoccupied for the last several years, but it has been home to restaurants, nightclubs, shops + other businesses.
🙌 The new draw to the Shepherd-Sloss building comes at a great time for Five Points, as residents recover + rebuild from the Cobb Lane Fire, just a few blocks away.
