šš š§š¢š š”š!!
I donāt know about you gals but my cup was full by the end of Thursday evening's YogaFaith Encounter.
It was a treat to see faces that we havenāt seen in a while. Reunions are awesome! š„³
Some of you tried it for the first time. How fun is that?! š¤©
Thirty-three of you showed up and shared yourselves with one another as well as the One that loves you most.
*THANKS to the hands that helped set up and welcome others! (Itās not easy walking in the dark to help place eye pillows during Savasana. Could you hear us drop some? š¬)
*THANKS to the hands that helped clean up. (Picking up candles⦠rolling up lights. Carrying boxes & bags of Mexican blankets to the car! The list could go on!)
*THANKS to Jenny Gauger for her amazing cupcakes (almost too pretty to eat.)
*THANKS to Mallory of Urban Grazings LLC for her charcuterie boards (also almost too pretty to eat!)
*THANKS to Rise Coffee and Tea for their part give-aways.
Next week weāll be back to regular classesāāTuesday from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at RiverTree Church and Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 am online.
Now, letās go out there with āhappy socksā on our feet and āhappy heartsā in our chest. The world needs what we get to experience on our mats.
Love you allā¦

Itās here!
Once a year we offer an Encounter. The time has come.
One definition of encounter is āto come face to face.ā
I have several goals for an Encounter.
* I hope attendees walk away encouraged by the company of like-minded women.
* I hope attendees walk away empowered with tools to take better care of themselves (because they are SO busy caring for others.)
* But more than anything I hope that they leave with one moment, one memory that they can tuck away in which they came face to face with God. The One that is crazy in love with them.
THAT is what an Encounter means to me. And that is what Rooted Yoga is all about.
A place for rest.
A place for health.
A place to meet with Him.
Itās free. Itās tonight. I hope you come. (Mats are provided. You donāt need a thing but your lovely self!)
01/31/2024
The countdown is on.
Come for fun (there will be laughter.)
Come for food (it will be tasty.)
Come for free (thereās no cost.)
But most of all come to rest and gain tools for taking care of those amazing bodies that serve us everyday.
There will be a short workshop.
There will be giveaways.
There will be a 30 minute restorative practice (soft lights, gentle music and a Christ-centered Devotion.)
If youāve ever thought about trying yoga this a wonderful time to check it out. ā¤ļø

There are a handful of images from past YogaFaith Encounters that are my favorite. This is one of my favorites.
Sandals are removed. One does that on holy ground.
The posture is one of total surrender. The best way to receive.
Thereās a song by Abbie Gamboa. Itās called "Window for Glory to Slide In". Sometimes I think thatās the best description of what I do. Iām a window opener.
My goodness. The privilege of it. Simply holding the spaceāāopening the window so women with tired bodies (and sometimes tired souls) can find rest.
If youāve ever thought about yoga come. If you can breathe you can do it.
Questions? Message me. Iāll be here all week.
I and other women just like you will be at RiverTree Church this Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00PM.
āCome to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.ā Matthew 11:28

I rarely post about āyoga stuffā here but I wanted to share about a fun event thatās happening next week.
Every so often I host a YogaFaith Encounter. Itās an opportunity to check out Christ-centered yoga.
Itās free.
Thereās food (thank you Mallory for yummy charcuterie boards from Urban Grazings LLC and Jenny for making oodles of cupcakes!)
Thereās a mini workshop followed by a brief 30-minute, restful, yoga practice.
And there are give aways. There are gift bundles for two ambassadors this year and TEN drawings for other attendants. And look at the beautiful bracelets from our own YOGA FAITH instructor Mary Jensen Lanningš
Did I mention itās free?
Why do I do this? Because I believe in it. I think that some days the world is hard. I think weāre stressed. I think our bodies need a boost and our brains need a break. More than anything I believe it is good when we can slow down enough to spend time with Jesus because life. is. busy.
Come to RiverTree Church church next Thursday, February 1st. The north and south doors will open at 6PM. We start at 6:30. Weāll be done by 8.
Bring a friend or family member. Itās the perfect time to check it out! ā¤ļø š§š¼āāļø āļø

If ever there was a man who longed to follow God, it was David. One of the first things we notice about David is that he regularly went to God with his troubles and was brutally honest with God.
āI called out to you, God; I laid my case before You: āCan You see me for a profit when Iām dead? Auction me off at a cemetery yard sale? When Iām ādust to dust,ā my songs and stories of You wonāt sell. So, listen! And be kind! Help me out of this!ā Psalms 30:8-10 MSG
āI run to You, God. I run for dear life. Donāt let me down! Take me seriously this time! Get down on my level and listen, and pleaseāā no procrastination this time.ā Psalms 31:1-2 MSG
Isnāt it incredible that God can handle it? He is so patient. Itās tempting to not verbalize how weāre really thinking. But not sharing these things with God would be ironic. He already knows what we are thinking and feeling.
Why verbalize it, then?
We donāt do it for Godās benefit.
We do it for ours.
Being transparent with God about our struggles is essential. When we articulate what we are going through, it is easier to connect the dots when we see Godās response.
Sometimes His response is an answer to prayer that looks exactly like what we had hoped for.
Sometimes His response takes the form of something less tangible but more powerful. He changes us, not the circumstances.
He doesnāt deliver us from the hard thing⦠He gives us strength for the hard thing.
He doesnāt spare us from grief⦠He gives us hope as we endure it.
He doesnāt answer our every dream⦠He creates new dreams within us that align with His perfect and excellent plan for us.

Following God is a journey. The good news is that the process is the point. Certainly, we care about the destination. So does God. God wants us home. But God wastes nothing, and He uses the short time we have here on earth. He uses it to our benefit.
As we grow in our knowledge of the Holy, we grow in the understanding of how incapable we are of becoming all that He wants for us. Thank God that He offers to do the work!
"I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]." Philippians 1:6 AMP
There are concrete steps we can take to follow God. Our relationship with Him isnāt all that different from other relationshipsāāā we learn, and we grow! But the remarkable gift in our relationship with God is that He will cause the growth. We just have to want it.
This week weāll be unpacking what it looks like to choose God daily!

Thereās a long list of synonyms for the word indecision.
Hesitation
Ambivalence
Unsure
Vacillate
Oscillate
Waver
Teeter
Falter

Weāre wrapping up our series on fasting from things that are bad for us by unpacking the good God has in store for us when we fast from indecision.
Recently, I had lunch with a friend. We agreed that often in life, one decision can have ripples. Tiny twists and turns that could have been different if it werenāt for a particular decision.
This kind of reflection could scare the tar out of us. If weāre not careful, we could end up paralyzed in our decision-making because weāre afraid we will get it wrong.
But what if our decisions could be protected in a way that allowed for variations but not harmful redirections?
We can experience this kind of security if we start with one, just one, crucial decision.
We can choose God.
Psalms 16, verse five says this:
āMy choice is you, God, first and only.ā
So, what does it mean to choose God? Letās see what else David has to say in Psalm 16.
āKeep me safe, O God, Iāve run for dear life to you. I say to God, āBe my Lord!ā Without you, nothing makes sense.ā Psalms 16:1-2
Years ago, I remember uttering my own variation of Davidās prayer to God. At the time, I was wavering in my faith. I was indecisive.
Iād been studying variations of the Christian faith. I was searching, and as I looked, I became increasingly open to various ideas regarding spirituality. My openness resulted in what could be best described as ambivalence. I had no clear direction regarding who or what I believed in.
My pride would like to say itās because I was thoughtful. I wanted to learn and know things. But the truth isāā
I chose not to ārun to God for dear lifeā because I was scared that He would fail me.
This weekās post wrecked meāāin a good way. If youāre on the fence, heck, if youāre two miles from the fence, check out this weeks Devo. Itās an invitation you donāt want to miss.

They say there is no hurt like church hurt. Unfortunately, that kind of experience can taint our expectations regarding God.
Perhaps the hurt may not have been a church. The hurt may have come from someone who professed Christianity, but their practice of it was lacking. If that is the case, we can receive a tender message from God at the end of our verse from Psalms 16.
āMy choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find Iām YOUR choice!ā [Emphasis mine.]
When we decide that we are going to choose God, itās like turning a key into a room full of treasure.
We take a chance and say, "God, I may not understand doctrine. I may have a bad taste in my mouth about religion. But Iām making the decision to put my faith in YOU. This isnāt about anyone or anything else. Itās about me deciding to run to You.ā
When we make that choice, it doesnāt change how much God loves us. God loves us before, during, and after our choices. But that one decision will have ripples in our life. Every day, every moment that we choose Him, we discover all the ways that we are His choice.

If there's anything that can suck the joy out of life, it's when we're bitter. This week we'll learn from one woman's heartbreaking loss on how we can "fast" from bitterness.
It was roughly 1,000 years before the birth of Christ, and there was a famine throughout Israel. Consequently, a man named Elimelech, his wife Naomi, and their two sons moved to the country of Moab.
They were there for 10 years, during which time Elimelech and his two sons died. Naomi was now a widow with two widowed daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth. The future for these women was bleak.
And so, Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth return to Israel. It is then that we begin to see God's hand at work.
- They just happened to return at the time of the harvest.
- It so happened Naomi had a relative by marriage named Boaz. According to Jewish custom, Boaz would have the prerogative of marrying Ruth. This would provide for the widows.
- As it turned out when Ruth went to gather food from a field for her and Naomi, she found herself in a lot that belonged to Boaz.
God takes Naomi's bitter story sprinkles it with sugar, after sugar, after sugar.
As objective readers, we know the outcome and can quickly spot the "it just so happened." But I wonder if Naomi recognized it. At least at first.
How many times has that happened in our own lives? It isn't until later, sometimes many years later, that we see God's tender hand in our circumstances.
If bitterness is rearing its ugly head in your life, I hope youāll join us at the blog this weekāāGiving Up Bitterness for Lent. A Fresh Idea for a Traditional Practice.
