Our Fishing with Dads event was held on June 6th to honor dads! Eleven dads and their children participated in a day of fishing, creating memories and strengthening family bonds.

A huge thank you to the City of McAllen and City of McAllen Parks and Recreation for the valuable introduction to fishing lesson, supplying additional fishing equipment to our FAYS and Family Hope Center families, and making this a memorable experience for all.

On May 30, twenty-six volunteers from our FAYS program gathered at Bob Clark Social Service Community Center to join forces and beautify the grounds. They learned about various flowers and plants and how to properly plant and care for them. We enjoyed the opportunity to grow in fellowship and build community spirit.

During the month of May, Nikki Rowe High School Student Council collected items to create care gift bags for our foster families. In addition, they also donated backpacks full of gift items for the children in our care. It is always heartwarming when our community supports and appreciates our foster families.

In Texas, more than 1,000 youth age out of foster care each year.

When youth age out of the foster care system between 18 to 23 years old, they are vulnerable to addiction, human trafficking and homelessness. With little support, former foster youth are left to navigate from adolescence to adulthood on their own.

For National Youth Aging Out Day, you can help by fostering or adopting a teen through Waiting Texas Children and providing mentorship for youth who may not have a positive person in their life.
