Dick Landis Project
Musical endeavors of Dick Landis. Original music and cover songs and videos. New Original music will occasionally be posted here. Feedback is appreciated.
Once upon a time there was a boy from Philadelphia who started playing the drums. Mom and dad bought a drum kit and put it up in the attic where he could bash away and practice this new craft at the end of the 60’s and early 70’s inspired by Buddy Rich, Ian Paice, and other Rock drummer greats.
After some lessons and participation in the school band behind the bass drum, he soon realized because he couldn’t read music he’d have to quit the bass drum HS band.
By that time, Rock n' Roll happened and the Beatles, Stones, Clapton and Wishbone Ash grabbed his attention like most young kids.
He soon changed to the guitar as instrument of choice because 1) he wanted to control the melody more and be a greater part of the music, 2) his best friend was a phenomenal drummer and wayyy better than he was, and 3) his friends brother had a cheap knock off Strat guitar that he could use to jam with the drums.
Soon after some lessons and many many days in the Philadelphia attic playing through Beatle songbooks, he started becoming decent on the instrument. He sought out many neighborhood teachers and mentors and pursued anyone who knew that one magic song or lost chord that he wanted to learn.
The forming of bands soon followed. Garages were blasting as loud amps were played. Jams and High School and college dances were played and rock star dreams were implanted.
The bands and players have changed and the bars and tavern and vfw halls were played in Chicago and then Minneapolis.
The constant is of course the Philly drummer boy and guitarist Dick Landis who now writes compelling and catchy original songs as well as a library knowledge of classic rock songs.
The Project can be seen occasionally around the Twin Cities. Might be a jam night at the Narrows Saloon or the excelsior Brewery or a gathering around a campfire You will find the rock and roll there!
See you around! Enjoy these videos and portfolio of original songs and music.
I welcome your comments and feedback and pieces that you like.
I will continue to post new music as I make it.
